There’s some serious historic lows in this list.

Crazy fast this year, I was only able to grab and R6II before everything else got picked up

First time I buy something on Black Friday canon sales.

I was lucky to grab the Rf100-500mm lens. I got an email telling my order was placed. So far, the status of my order on my Canon Account says “Pending”.

Based on your experience, is it normal that the order still says pending?

    Thanks!

@Anthony- based on previous years, you should be good. The 100-500 is an amazing lens. Congrats!

Thank you! Since it was sold out just in 10 minutes (after around 5 minutes I bought mine) I was a bit nervous…

I guess we will need to wait for the shipping confirmation email until tomorrow morning…

Hmmm, I expected better prices on the R5 ($1,800?), the R6 II ($1,350?), and the R8 ($800?). The R8 got closest.

What exactly were you basing this on?

        November 29, 2024 at 1:25 am EDT

The R8 only came down by $50 compared to the previous low recorded a year ago. I was expecting $799.

The R6 II had a “price mistake” in Sep 2024 at 1,350. I was expecting around that price, maybe even $1,300. It’ll get there once the R6 III is out.

The R5 will be $1,700 in the same sale next year.

        It’s technology.

These were still amazing prices. The BF Refurbished sale just felt more aggressive in the last two years. Canon always threw in free battery grips as well. There has been quite a bit on inflation, of course. That may have dampened how ambitious they got this year.

The “price mistake” in September truly was a price mistake (they let two promotions overlap, and they reverted it as soon as they found out). So it’s a bit unfair to compare to that sale, it was truly special.

          Back in June i had a chance to get R6ii for $1159 + R7 $719…
that was the best deals ever! ✨

Instead of having a $1,300 blowout sale on the R6 II, they had one on the R6 at $999. Pretty good price on the R6.

And there are no included free battery grips this year.

Some of these prices are really good. But was the 50mm f/1.2 really in stock? I was refreshing at midnight and the price dropped but never came in stock

I’m curious too. I checked some of the lenses this morning and were out of stock (135mm 1.8)

that’s what happened to me with the RF 100-400. 🙁
came in stock at the regular $519 around 11:15pm, sold out, then the price changed to $350 a little bit after midnight, but never came back in stock. Really hope more will be listed.

Okay, now that I’ve had some time to breathe, here are some thoughts:

Wow, that went super quickly. It seems like there was less stock than previous years, and lots of people pre-buying items (the RF 100-400mm sold out in the pre-sale restock).

Prices were great, matching previous lows (not including the September price mistake).

I don’t expect a long, sustained restock, but we may see a trickle (due to cancelled orders) over the next few days. The sale ends on December 2nd — a short one.

      November 29, 2024 at 3:29 am EDT

Are you saying people pre-bought and will now ask for a price adjustment? Does that work? Thanks!

Black Friday always brings out a different set of customers, typically less savvy than your usual CPW reader. The pre-sale price of $519 already looked like a good deal to many.

I think it’s risky to do a price adjustment when the item is out-of-stock. I’ve never tried it with Canon…

          November 29, 2024 at 10:54 am EDT

Got it. As per your main post, technically Canon does price adjustments for 15 days. But who knows what they’d do in practice.

I snoozed and lost. Probably for the best, as new gear is probably not going to make a difference in my photography at this point.

Is there any chance that the RF70-200f2.8 will be replenished? I thought the store will be opened on this morning.

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      November 29, 2024 at 9:37 am EDT

Maybe one or two copies every now and then, but likely not a restock in quantity. The other problem is there are hundreds of people reloading the Canon store and waiting for it to go in-stock.

How do you use the Canon upgrade loyalty program discount of 10% on Refurb items during these sales when reduced prices show up at 12:00AM EST and stock is gone by 12:15AM? Is there a way to do this on Canon’s website? Or is this discount given only when you call customer service (which is obviously impossible at 12:01AM)?

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      November 29, 2024 at 11:13 am EDT

You can’t — definitely don’t have time to do it during a sale. They’ve also significantly changed the “Loyalty” program and it doesn’t apply to many items, often doesn’t stack with sales, and has very strict restrictions that require your camera to actually be out of support.

      1. Kris
        November 29, 2024 at 12:47 pm EDT

Got it. If you could do a blog post on said changes, that would be much appreciated. I have enough “vintage” Canon cameras lying around here (including film cameras) that “out of support” would not be an issue for me. 🙂

In 2022 at BF/Cyber Monday, cracking refurb deals were around for a couple days, so many people actually called customer service and got their 10% off.

The Canon 2022 and 2023 BF Refurb Sale was a lot more generous in many ways. Free battery grips with bodies was the norm. The RF 28-70 f/2.0 went crazy low and you could get the loyalty discount on it. The same was true for the R5.

Of course, there has been quite a bit of inflation in the meantime.
