The Canon Direct Store just “restocked” most of their refurbished inventory. There’s a very hot 15%-off stacking sale that ends on Thursday, so this is likely the last restock in the sale. Check out our refurbished stock tracker for the details of everything that is now in-stock.
We write “restock” in quote because many readers report not yet receiving items purchased earlier in the sale. These are great prices, but we’d expect a long wait to receive them, please be patient. Purchase quickly and use expedited shipping to increase your chances of receiving sooner.

I’m going to repost this comment from the CPW notice regarding RF70-200 became available for the first time on Refurb Store. Since I have the orders from that time already in “Inventory Fulfilled” and my call to Canon did not go through – recording said they were closed – I guess I’ll have to sit and wait for the order to come through, as frustrating as it may seem…
“Even though I ordered relatively early (early morning hours after the initial notification came in) and the stock indicator showed 20+ in stock, my order has stalled so far at “Inventory fulfilled.” The charge showed up on CC activity at the time of purchase but it has disappeared since then. Is this the case of infamous Canon refurb phantom stock again?
The timing of it is a concern too: back in late July there was EF-RF adapter available for incredible discount, it was followed by Canon USA’s servers getting hacked. This time around, it coincides with Solarwinds breach. Not sure if Canon was one of its clients but given 80% of Fortune 500 companies were affected, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a result of part of the breach. I’m keeping a close eye on my credit card activities (which I already do but ramp it up).”
Thanks for the comment.
I’m sure it’s frustrating to not receive your items yet. Yes, it appears the Canon Store logistics have been a bit of a mess.
I don’t have more information than you, but I would highly doubt this has to do with the hacking or breaches. My guess is it’s due to the higher volumes this year (there has been a lot of interest in RF thanks to the R5/R6), as well as all of the pandemic-caused global supply chain challenges that are snarling up both manufacturing and shipping.
Thanks for the response.
I just received notification that one of the orders I’ve made has shipped. I placed another order for my friend 30 min after my first order, and that is the one that they’re shipping. I hope they fulfill the first one as well…
I’m still waiting on my two lenses
I’ve ordered RF 24-105 F4L when i got a notification from CPW that it’s back in stock but for some reason canon still hasn’t shipped my order and it’s been 3 weeks already. Canon website says its on backorder.
Same here – I ordered last time the RF 24-105 F4 was in stock and mine switched to backordered after a few days. I called Canon and they said they didn’t have any but were expecting more stock in the next few weeks. I guess this is the stock they were referring to, but it’s strange to see the website showing it as in-stock but my order still shows as backordered. I know someone else who ordered the RF 24-70 2.8 during its last refurb restock and theirs hasn’t shipped yet either, but it doesn’t show as backordered. Canon really needs to step up their game with fulfilling these orders.
I agree. I was hoping to use it over the holidays.
Same with me. Ordered RF 24-105 on Dec 1 when it showed in stock, then back ordered, still back ordered. I had been hoping when it showed up in stock that the back ordered would be filled, but no luck. I also ordered an RF 28-70 f2 yesterday when there were in stock. That too now shows back ordered.
What’s even more frustrating is when I log into my account I don’t even see my order
THIS!!!!! You’d think a company charging top $$$$$, arms and legs would have their stuff together, nope, nope. I switched from Nikon and someone said “top customer service” and so far it hasn’t impressed me one bit. I’ll wait patiently to receive my lens though.
On the last refurb sale I was told by the person on the Canon sales line that the RP+24-104F4 was in-stock and ready to ship. 2 weeks went by and I didn’t have any notification so I called back and they said it was back ordered.
I cancelled the order on the spot and complained to the supervisor that I was lied to initially. They said they would review the recording of the sale and get back to me. Within a day they called me back and apologized and gave me a HUGE discount on whatever I wanted from the online store. So I ended up getting the R6+ 24-104F4 bundle for less than $2000.
Sometimes it pays to go full Karen on these people.
How did you go about doing that? I ordered the rf 70-200 the last time it was in stock, and the order status was stuck at backordered, despite them adding more stock today. I spent an hour on the phone to get an agent, who said there was two in stock, but he couldn’t fulfill my order because he wasn’t in sales, said he’d transfer me to sales. That ended up being another hour wait, and it sold out again in the meantime. They offered a 5% discount off a new one, which is nowhere near the refurbished price. I’d buy it at that price, the 5% felt like a slap in the face after a 2 hour wait considering I own over 10 grand worth of their camera gear.
Jim Schnortz – I feel like this is one of those “I’ll take things that never happened for 500 Alex” scenarios. But hey, I guess we will never know. If they did get that deal, good for them.
Another thing that is frustrating is seeing my “back ordered” 24-70mm from the 14th still not being fulfilled, and then they restock? So, they don’t fill backordered items first? This is very messy on Canon’s behalf, they really need to start getting this sorted out.
This is probably not a real “restock” — my guess is people who order now will also get backordered, this is just an opportunity for more people to order (against future inventory). At least, that’s my guess.
After spending far too long on the phone with Canon – it turns out they just have a crappy inventory system that can’t differentiate between backordered stock and genuinely available stock. What this means is that when they add inventory to the system to fulfill existing backorders it then shows that product as in-stock online, and more people place orders… which of course then get backordered. They were understanding and apologetic, but ultimately unable to offer any solutions to my backordered RF 24-105 other than waiting and hoping that more stock becomes available. Apparently there are more than 150 backorders on the refurb RF 24-105 right now, so I don’t have a ton of hope of my order being fulfilled anytime soon given the usual amounts of stock I see occasionally appear in the refurb store. I was also told that there’s a new inventory system that’s supposed to be coming online soon which shouldn’t have this issue.
I placed order for RP with 24-240mm lens during same time. It has been in back ordered status. I am not even sure when it is going to be fulfilled. Body seemed to be in an out our of stock for few times. It is going to be long wait before Canon filling in all these back ordered items.
Only positive news is, Canon is sitting on back ordered items without cancelling and committed to fulfilling them.
This is all just BS from Canon and this is been going on for years now. My “in-stock”order from 12/01/2020 1:38am is still back-ordered. Keep in mind they started the sale at 12:00am that day and my order was placed in less than 1 hour 40 minutes. One of the rep who I spoke to said “The system is working as designed” In my mind I was like, so someone designed a system to show something is in stock when it is not really in stock? what kind of clown would do that? but apparently the “leader in imaging” cannot design, build and maintain a simple online store and they are OK with thousands of frustrated customers. This guy also said Canon does not sell user returns as new and shows items “in stock” expecting more inventory to come in. Last time around (I believe that was in 2018) canon gave me the similiar BS for a 6D2 + 24-105 kit so I cancelled my order. This time I want to see what these idiots will do with my order so I got something else for Christmas and have decided to wait on this and see what happens.
All of this self-righteous indignation about the crappy inventory system at Canon is hilarious to me. Everyone who is pissed is trying to get premium like-new gear at the best prices on the market (by a wide margin). If speed is your primary concern, then order retail. If price is, then be patient.
I ordered a 28-70mm f2 on Nov 16th which still has backorder status. I’m hoping it’ll be fulfilled sometime in January. Thankfully I don’t “need” the lens, more of a want, so I can wait until it finally arrives. It’s worth the wait to save $600
It’s not unreasonable for folks to feel frustrated that an in-stock item turns out not to be in stock, and that it keeps showing up as in stock even when there are backorders present. Dismissing the frustration because it was a good price is silly, it’s not like people are gaming the system somehow and it’s not a pricing mistake. They are ordering items at a publicly advertised sale price, that are listed as in stock and then subsequently being told the items are not in stock. It’s a bad experience for customers. That said – at least Canon is not canceling orders and has said that they will honor the price if you are willing to wait for inventory to become available.
You hit the nail on its head. Thanks for taking the time to write my thoughts. Haha. Happy holidays!
Same Situation as Fred with the RF 70-200…I jumped on it early as soon as I received the alert and placed the order which was confirmed-contacted Canon about about a week ago and after waiting for an hour, was advised that due to warehouse concerns they can only ship limited numbers and mine was scheduled to ship out 12/29. Yesterday I look at my account and the charge has fallen off with the funds back into my account. I check my account on the website and the order is still shown. I call Canon and the automated system says it cannot find the order…and of course, they are closed….This is beyond terrible customer service. What’s the deal Canon?
How accurate is the actual stock number? And how often does it update? I refreshed the cpw web from time to time and the RF 35mm and it always showed 20+ in stock. I was thinking to order one once I got back from work. At a point the status changed directly to out of stock. Cannot root out that some cpw reader order 30 copied though.
The number shown on our site reflects the number that the Canon store shows available for sale. We typically refresh our stock count within minutes for popular items. It’s possible that Canon can change the number available for sale on their end, we’ve seen it go from 20+ to sold out instantly in other situations.
Just got a shipping notification for my RF 24-70 f2.8. Order placed 12/12. Crossing my finger for my RF 70-200 as well, which I ordered on 12/13.
Just wanted to check in and say I got tracking numbers for the M6 Mk II and RF 70-200 I ordered on Dec 12. So it looks like the orders are starting to go out.
Just got a shipping confirmation for my refurb RF 70-200mm lens that I ordered on dec 11. Shipped today from IL and delivering tomorrow (west coast).
Aaaannnndddd my $2200 lens has fingerprint smudges on the front glass element.
Finally got my refurb 5D iv last week. It shipped about a week after ordering. Shutter count 22. Not bad for $1758!!
