Cyber Monday Street Price Lenses, Special EF 16-35mm f/4L IS $999

Many body deals last weekend but no lens deals, let’s make one!

We’re pleased to announce a Cyber Monday street price special on the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM of $999.99 after the $100 mail-in rebate. This is $50 lower than our regular street price for this lens, and this price is only valid for the next 12 hours.

This ultra-wide angle zoom has been touted to be extraordinarily sharp in the corners, and is a great pair to a brand new full-frame body, if you picked one up recently.

We also have great street prices (but not specials) on other very popular lenses. We don’t expect any changes to the following prices today or this week.

Many other sites are posting a “deal” of the 70-200mm II for $1899 from an unauthorized eBay dealer. We have the same price of $1899 from a reputable authorized dealer after the Canon rebate!

Popular Street Prices: 70-200 II $1899, 24-70 II $1749, 16-35 f/4 $1049

The Canon 20%-off refurbished sale ended with no restock of highly-desired lenses — those lenses already sell out quickly at full refurbished price, so we’re not surprised that Canon did not restock them during the sale.

If you are disappointed, luckily, we still have some great street prices available, brand new from authorized Canon dealers with a full 1-year Canon USA warranty, no tax to most states:

The street price on the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM is especially popular as this is the first time the lens has gone on rebate. Again, we’re not expecting to see the Canon Minimum Advertised Price policy broken this year, so we don’t expect to see lower prices publicly shown on retailer’s websites.

We also continue to have two fantastic and popular body deals, and some grip specials, please inquire if interested.

Street Price Introduced: EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM for $1169

Only one month after it was released, we are already tracking a street price for the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM of $1169 at US authorized Canon dealers, with free shipping.

This is a fantastic lens with vastly improved corner performance based on everything we’ve seen. The introduction of this street price is an indication that supply of this lens is very healthy, which is surprising given how many people are purchasing it.

As usual, the EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM street price form has more details.

EF 16-35mm f/4L IS: Astounding Corner Performance, Reasonable Price

When the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM was first announced we wondered why anyone would pick it over the cheaper 17-40L or similarly priced but faster 16-35L II. Many of our readers have written in and asked that same question!

We’re now seeing early reviews confirming what the MTF charts said: astounding corner performance. One of the most clear examples is a sequence of test shots taken by Australian photographer Phil Aynsley. It’s not a scientific study, but clearly shows wide-angle corner performance is significantly improved over the 16-35L II and TS-E 17mm, even when stopped down. (Center performance is about the same.)

The performance is quite impressive, and I’m also pleased Canon set a reasonable price for it instead of the usual bleeding-edge premium (remember the 70-200 II introduction at $2499?).

Profeel via eBay has a limited quantity of the Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM in-stock and ready to ship. Order today and it ships on Monday, price is $1199.00. We’re also hearing that the first B&H Photo Video pre-orders have shipped and their website shows a general availability date of June 24th.

Price Mistake: Pre-Order the 16-35 f/4L IS for $1074, 10-18mm for $249

In applying a refurbished discount the Canon Direct Store has made a mistake and is also applying this discount to all new ultra-wide-angle zoom lenses. This is a likely a price mistake.

Until they fix it, you can take advantage of a discount on five UWA zoom lenses, including a rare discounted pre-order on the two recently announced lenses. Add to cart to see discount.

UPDATE: This has been fixed, this deal is now dead.

The other three improperly discounted include:

Pre-orders at the Canon store also come with a commemorative “100 Million EF Lenses” t-shirt.
