Hot: EOS 6D Body for $1399 (Import) eBay, or $1499 Street Price

eBay Daily Deal: 6th Ave via eBay has the Canon EOS 6D for $1399.99. This is the lowest price we’ve seen body only for a brand new EOS 6D in the last 6 months.

Please note that 6ave is not an authorized dealer. They are an unauthorized dealer, and the listing clearly indicates that this may be an import body. Import bodies are physically identical, the only difference is a Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed; the store provides a one-year store warranty. We haven’t heard any recent reader complaints about this retailer, they have a 99.2% positive feedback rating. You also get the usual eBay, PayPal, and credit card buyer protection.

If the idea of a grey market / import body doesn’t appeal to you, we also now have a price drop on the Canon EOS 6D Street Price to $1499 after $200 mail-in rebate from an authorized dealer. Compare with $1699 (after same rebate) from other authorized dealers.

New Canon Mail-in Rebates on Cameras and Lenses for July

We list the lenses, the rebate amount, and after-rebate prices below. Some instant rebates were converted to mail-in rebates, with the same final price. As previously warned, many rebate values are reduced from the April rebates, and as expected, MAP is still strictly enforced.

EF 85mm f/1.8 USM for $299 BuyDig eBay (Likely Not “Refurbished”)

Another sneaky listing from BuyDig via eBay? They have the EF 85mm f/1.8 USM “manufacturer refurbished” for $299.99.

But the listing details give the catalog number as CN85USM, and the part number as 2519A003. The catalog number matches the brand new item on BuyDig’s site, and the part number is also the brand new part number (refurbished part is 2519A007, for your reference).

We think this is yet another “refurbished” sale where they are shipping new items — $299 would be the lowest price ever seen for a new EF 85mm f/1.8 USM from an authorized dealer. BuyDig only collects sales tax to NJ. The $50 instant rebate on the lens is likely converted to a mail-in rebate tonight.

Hot: EOS 70D for $849 BuyDig via eBay (Likely Not “Refurbished”)

Hot: BuyDig via eBay has the Canon EOS 70D for $849.99. The listing subtitle says “Refurbished”, but the part number (8469B002), catalog number (CNEOS70D), and listing description all say “brand new”. Our guess is this is similar to the deal where they listed 6D + 24-105mm as “refurbished” but ended up shipping brand new kits to everyone!

UPDATE: It looks like the listing is updated to note “refurbished”, but there are still discrepancies with the part number and catalog number…

Expect refurbished, and you will be pleased if you receive a brand new body. If brand new, this is the absolute lowest price we’ve seen it ever! (They’re an authorized dealer.)

We also expect today is the day to purchase this as the current $200 instant rebate is subject to change at the end of the day. This is a fantastic deal, it’s $150 lower than other authorized dealers and $90 lower than our street price!

More Details about the New Canon Mail-in Rebate

We’ve been told a few more details about the new Canon mail-in rebate, to begin on Sunday, July 6th, replacing the currently available rebates.

  • 41 lenses with mail-in rebates available.
  • Confirmation that most lenses have had their rebates reduced by $50 or $100, so effectively a price increase.
  • Most current instant rebates have been unfortunately converted to mail-in rebates. This includes a $200 rebate (currently instant) on the EOS 6D.
  • The 5D Mark III will keep its $200 mail-in rebate for four more weeks.
  • The PIXMA PRO printer rebates (which expired on June 30th) will be back. The 5D Mark III is an eligible body once again for getting the $400 combination rebate.

Orders placed on or before July 5th will still be eligible for the current (and larger) mail-in rebates. Orders placed on or after July 6th are only eligible for the new mail-in rebates.

Happy 4th of July!

Hot: Spyder4Pro Color Calibration for $99 at B&H

B&H Photo Video has the Datacolor Spyder4Pro for only $99.00.

This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen, and $50 lower than all other dealers! A fantastic deal if you’re still looking for a color calibration device.

Many photographers prefer the Spyder4Pro over the lower-end Spyder4Express due to support for more gamma settings, temperature settings, and the ability to measure ambient light and adjust.

Canon Rebates End This Week — Lens Prices Going Up

The current Canon Mail-in Rebates are set to end this week; they’re only valid for purchases through Saturday, July 5th, at US Canon authorized dealers.

We can confirm that a new set of mail-in rebates will begin on Sunday — however, most lens rebate values will be lowered, and some rebates eliminated altogether, which will effectively increase the final price. Specifically, some of the most popular items will see a significant change to the rebate:

In summary, if you are considering a purchase in the short term, now would be the time (take a look at our street prices). Based on historical data, we expect the next opportunity for large rebates will be in the fall, the ramp-up to the Holiday season. We must caution that given Canon’s success in strictly enforcing MAP for three months now, we think it’s unlikely to see a repeat of last year’s double-dip frenzy.
