Very few people bought 5D Mark IV at the current price and when the price increases, people will stop buying Canon.
Actually, I’d disagree with your statement; the EOS 5D Mark IV at the current street price has been the top selling item from Canon this year. By far. As much as people incessantly complain about it, lots of photographers are buying (and using) it, especially professionals; it’s a fantastic camera.
I am curious how you get the information. If the 5D series camera become the top selling item for canon, this means canon is really in trouble. Usually they sell much more low end DSLR every year than 5D series. There might lots of some people want to buy 5D4, the number should be much lower than other low end cameras. As far as I know, 5D4 is really not hot when compared to 5D3 at the similar time after they were announced.
Agreed! The 5D IV’s price dropped from $3499 to $3299 to street price at $2999 within a year. people who didn’t get it at $2999 are not going to get it when goes back to it’s initial release price. Without the full functionality of 4K, many videographers had already switched to either Sony or Panasonic GH5…hardcore still photographers would only buy the 5D Iv if they got stuck with too many Canon glasses. IMO, the 5D IV will drop below $2999 by November or December…..
Guest2: this is from sales data from CanonPriceWatch customers and the dealers we work with, which may be a different subset of the camera market than the folks buying Rebels from retail.
Guest5: I’m not disputing the fact that the price will go back down later. If you look at any camera it slowly drops in price over its lifetime in a controlled way. However, occasionally you get price increases due to marketing reasons (making room before a holiday sale, keeping the price high to support another release — like the EOS 6D II), cost change (earthquakes/tsunamis, currency and foreign exchange), or other reasons…
I do think that Canon increases the price on 5D Mark IV just to push the sale of the 6D Mark II.
I agree with that — the price increase is likely due both to the 6D II launch as well as making room for discounts in the holiday season.
What is the reason for this price increase?Did the CEO get an increase in salary? We see these increases in the cost but are hardly ever told the reason why.
These are regular seasonal increase, similar things happen every year, only means if you want to buy them in the lower price, you may have to wait till the shopping season come.
I was considering a 5DM4, but no more. I can wait Canon out just as I did with the 5DM2 & 5DM3.
Refurbished? Just listed them on Canon USA
Jim Gormley I bought new – just waited for the price to come down to what I could afford. I have to wonder though since I do not do video (that’s my wife’s genre) if the step up to a 5DM4 is really a step up from a 5DM3.
If that’s the case you can bet the new 6d will outsell it
The 6DII will definitely outsell the 5D4 purely by price point. Hobbiest/amateurs surely outweigh the professionals.
As far as 4K goes in either model, I think this is overrated by just a small number of professional whiners. Only 30% of the people have 4K televisions, it requires oodles of HD space and to date as a working professional, I’ve never had a client ask whether I do 4K.
Not disagreeing or agreeing, but does anyone outside of Canon or retailers have actual sales numbers for each model? I see wildly varied numbers based on conjecture.
Agreed about the whiners. There isn’t much overlap in the 5D/6D target market.
Why would a pro make such a significant decision based on $1000?
The refurbished 5Dmk4 is a good price.
Not really, after tax it’s basically the same as the street price. But then, I guess that is still a good price, I’m jsut saying like, one is brand new, the other is a refurb.
Getting you the third from the bottom package. Thoughts? It’s the same camera I use Aaron Wise
Yes please
Aaron Wise actually will just do the refurbished one. Much cheaper
Historically, when can we expect to see another rebate on this? I’m deciding between the 5d4 and 6d2. I wanted to see some hands on reviews of production 6d2 before making a final decision.
By the holiday season. October or November would be my guess at this point.
CanonPriceWatch.com Thanks for the reply. All my gear is through the street price program and when I get a new body I will use you again . I have no prob waiting a few months
Love to buy 2 more 5D3 bodies
