How to Get Ready for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 Preorders, July 9th

The long-awaited announcement for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 is coming up real soon — the announcement is scheduled for July 9th and we expect pre-orders to officially open on that date.

Given the ground-breaking specs and very competitive price point, there is unprecedented demand for these cameras. We’re also expecting that there will be low initial supply (as evidenced by the multiple announcement delays, rumored to be caused by supply chain issues). If you are interested in this camera, we highly recommend a pre-order as it will likely take some time before the camera is widely available in-stock.

Fastest Pre-Order Option: B&H or Adorama

If getting a camera as fast as possible is your priority, B&H or Adorama are the way to go. They already have landing pages up for the EOS R5 and they historically have been well-supplied at camera launches.

Although they now both collect tax to most states, they offer methods to help defray this cost: B&H‘s “Payboo” credit card pays you back the tax, where as Adorama‘s “Edge” card gives you 5% back or special financing. Apply for the cards now, to make sure everything’s ready for the big day.

Lowest Price Pre-Order Option: Street Price

If you prefer to save some money — from a dealer that does not collect tax to your state, along with extra bonuses or a lowered price — we expect to have a street price pre-order option on both the EOS R5 and EOS R6. We hope to start our street price pre-order on or shortly after the announcement day.

Historically, our street price dealers have been able to fill street price pre-orders within a day to a few weeks after the launch day of the item (depending on supply) — so if you’re willing to wait up to an extra few weeks, you can save money on a hot new product.

A good strategy is to pre-order at multiple places; we will send out regular updates on our street price pre-order progress and you can decide to cancel one pre-order or another as the ship date nears.

If you are interested in the street price, be sure to add the EOS R5 or EOS R6 to your watchlist, as we will be giving an early-bird opportunity to our watchlist subscribers.

An update for our readers with the EOS R5 on their watchlist:

We’re told that the EOS R5 official announcement has been delayed until July. We wouldn’t be surprised if the actual camera release is also delayed (currently scheduled for July).

We continue to pursue street price pre-order options and are optimistic we will have one on the official announcement day! As noted before, EOS R5 watchlist members will have early-bird access, and we’ll publish further updates to this watchlist.

An update for our readers with the EOS R5 on their watchlist:

All the information we’ve heard still points to an early June announcement with availability in July.

We’re still working on a street price pre-order option and are hopeful we will have one on launch day. If we do have a street price pre-order, we’ll give everyone on the EOS R5 watchlist early-bird access before the general public (through an update just like this one). Please stay tuned, and watch your emails or push notifications for updates.

EOS R5 Added To Tracker — Add To Your Watchlist for Updates

We’ve added the EOS R5 to our tracker. We do not know the price yet, but its announcement should be soon. We’re seeing unprecedented levels of interest in the camera, with some dealers reporting that customers are placing pre-orders and deposits on the product, even though the price is not known.

You can add the camera to your personal watchlist to get alerted as more becomes known, as well as be the first to hear about future street price options and deals for this camera.

If you haven’t yet, check out our newly revamped notification system and new watchlist feature.

Canon Announcements: T8i, RF 24-105, EOS R5 and RF 100-500

Canon made several announcements last night — some new products that are available to pre-order now, and a couple exciting development announcements.

They announced the EOS Rebel T8i, which is now available to pre-order at the $749 price. They’ve also announced an entry-level RF lens, the RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM, which is at an excellent $399 price point. We’re now tracking these items.

More excitingly, they’ve made a development announcement of the EOS R5, which looks to be an astounding camera with a newly developed CMOS sensor. Canon confirms that it will support up to 20 fps using an electronic shutter, 8K video capture, and an in-body image stabilization which integrates with IS systems on attached RF lenses. Finally, dual media card slots rounds out this dream camera wishlist! The camera will also likely be released with the RF 100-500mm.
