Add EOS R3, RF 100mm, RF Super-Telephotos to Watchlist for Deals

Many readers are asking if we’ll have street price pre-order deals on the new EOS R3 camera and new lenses. We don’t know yet, as it depends on Canon supply and demand.

As always, we’ll give watchlist subscribers first dibs on any deals. If you haven’t yet, please add these items to your personal watchlist to get notified by email when a deal is available.

We’re expecting initial quantities to be limited, as with every other recent Canon release. If getting the lens early is important to you, we recommend a pre-order at one of the major Canon USA dealers. You can always cancel pre-orders closer to the release if other deals become available.

Used EF Lens Deals: 100L Macro, 16-35mm f/4, 70-200 II, and More

It looks like many photographers are selling EF lenses because a significant number of used EF lenses just got listed at the major used dealers. There are some good deals to be had, our favorite picks are below.

Used RF Lens Round-Up: RF 85 DS, 15-35mm, 85mm f/2 and More

Several dealers (including KEH and MPB) have restocked their inventory of used RF lenses. See all the available deals below, while they last!

Canon Store Showing Stock of the RF 28-70mm f/2L ($2999)

The Canon Direct Store is now showing stock of the Canon RF 28-70mm F2 L USM — it’s $2999.00. This lens continues to be in very short supply and sold out across the board. We’re not sure if this is real stock, but it appears that you can add to cart and complete checkout.

RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro, 400mm/600mm Announced and Preorders

Three more RF lenses were announced tonight! The RF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM has been optimized for EOS RF mount cameras, and the RF 400mm f/2.8L IS USM and RF 600mm f/4L IS USM are optically equivalent to their EF counterparts. They’re available to pre-order at B&H, Adorama, and Amazon.

Used Prices are High. Is Now the Time to Sell Your EF-Mount Glass?

Some readers have noted a lack of EF-mount lens deals lately — it’s because the current prices are horrendous. For example, the EF 100-400mm II is now $2399 and the EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS is now $1299. These high prices are likely caused by constrained supply due to the pandemic, as well as a general shift of Canon’s production to RF-mount cameras and lenses.

The higher retail prices are also causing used lens prices to increase, as many photographers are falling back to used dealers and private sales. It is a fantastic time to sell your lightly used EF lenses to a dealer or broker — in many cases, you can get close to the price you paid brand new! For example, KEH is offering ~$650 for a LN- condition EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS. Given that savvy CPW readers could have purchased this lens for $550-$650 as recently as 2019, this is a great opportunity to recoup your EF glass investment and fund a shift to mirrorless.

Adorama has significantly improved their used sale and trade-in process with an online form to request a quote. Other great options for selling include KEH and mpb.com — both offer an instant online quote and can send you a prepaid shipping label, to make it easier to ship the lens to them.
