EF 24-105mm f/4L IS: $639 Unauthorized or $659 Authorized Dealer

Two great deals on the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, one from an authorized dealer and one from an unauthorized dealer.

redtagcamera via eBay has the Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for $639.99. They aren’t an authorized dealer but they have 100% eBay feedback. Shipping is included.

If you prefer an authorized dealer we have a street price for only $20 more — $659. Shipping is included. This is a ‘white box’ version but a full Canon US warranty & warranty card are included.

Authorized dealers currently have this at $1149 (the full color box edition).

Update on EOS 6D+24-105mm for $1899 Unauthorized Dealer via eBay

A couple days ago we posted a EOS 6D + 24-105mm deal for $1899 at unauthorized dealer “BestStopDeals” via eBay.

We can now report back based on initial reader reports from the twelve readers (thus far) who have already received their purchases and contacted us.

  • Everyone received a brand new EOS 6D (including Wifi and GPS) as well as a brand new 24-105mm lens.
  • Most people reported receiving a Canon USA and Canada warranty card. This is good!
  • Unfortunately two readers (thus far) reported not receiving any warranty card at all.
  • No “International Warranty Cards” seen yet.

UPDATE: I spoke to the owner of BestStopDeals by phone today. He explained that the confusion on Tuesday was caused by a new customer service rep who did not answer the questions about the warranty cards correctly. The owner gave me his assurances that all the bodies sold in this deal were brand new Canon USA models and were fully eligible for the Canon USA warranty. Most boxes will have the Canon USA warranty card, however, as we explain in our article, some may have been removed by the original authorized dealer. As we note in our article you don’t need the warranty card for service (just the receipt) but the warranty card is often a good proof of Canon USA status.

I am quite satisfied by his explanation, and the initial reports from readers who have received US models mostly with USA warranty cards corroborates his explanation. Any customer who is not satisfied is welcome to contact the store, or you can contact me and I can help relay the message. He also notes the store will back the Canon USA warranty should there be any issues — but we’re always here for you if you need us.

The deal is still live for one more day.

UPDATE 2: See reader comments on this blog post for pictures & reports of receiving Japanese model bodies with no warranty cards (just copies of US warranty term cards that DO NOT BELONG in Japanese model boxes).

eBay Frenzy: Bell+Howell (a.k.a. Rokinon) 85mm f/1.4 for $209 BuyDig

BuyDig via eBay has the Bell+Howell (a.k.a. Rokinon) 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical for Canon for $209.00. This is the lowest price that we’ve ever seen for this lens, the average price over the last year was $270. This is part of the eBay Deal Frenzy.

Bell+Howell is yet another brand name that Samyang Optics uses to market otherwise identical lenses. Their other brands include Rokinon, Walimex, Bower, and Opteka. The reason why they need so many different names (instead of just picking one) still escapes us!

You can see some great photos taken with this really affordable lens in the Rokinon 85mm f/1.4 Aspherical group.

BuyDig is an authorized dealer for Rokinon.

Woes with “BestStopDeals” — So CPW Will Give You a Warranty

Yesterday we posted a deal from “BestStopDeals via eBay” featuring the EOS 6D + 24-105mm at $1899.

We called the store when the deal started and they informed us it was US model + USA warranty card. However over the course of the day they changed their tune, and several readers reported that they were now saying it’s an “International warranty card” (which is one of the signs of a non-US body).

We’re not too happy with this retailer and the confusion they’re causing. Needless to say, we won’t be posting any more deals from “BestStopDeals via eBay” until they clean up their act.

You can read more for the original guarantee we offered, but hopefully no one needs this anymore.

Canon Refurb Store Sale Restocked Just Now

The Canon Direct Store sale on refurbished lenses, speedlites, and EOS bodies just got restocked. They’re offering $125 off a purchase of $500, $50 off a purchase of $250. On a $500 item, that is up to 25% off. Add to cart to see the discount.

Again, the best deals are the ones that are close to $250 or $500. We’ve listed some of the best deals (as well as the very popular items) above.

As usual, check out our refurbished stock tracker for the full list.

eBay Frenzy: 5D Mark III $2559 — Now With Free 3 Year Warranty

AllNewShop via eBay must not have been selling many Canon EOS 5D Mark III for $2559.99 (import version) so they’ve now added a Free 3-Year Extended Warranty to their deal. This is part of the on-going eBay Deal Frenzy!

AllNewShop via eBay is not an authorized dealer, but they are one of the most reliable unauthorized dealers — they’re the same company as Get It Digital, and their new additional extended warranty actually looks pretty decent. They claim their warranty is serviced at authorized repair centers only, no hidden fees, can be even serviced overseas, and even comes with a free annual cleaning.

Again, the bodies in today’s sale are import versions as they clearly write in the listing description. As usual you can read our explanation of authorized, unauthorized, and grey market.

If you bought yesterday before the listing was changed you may want to ask if you can also get the 3-year warranty added for free too!
