Hot: Rokinon 8mm Fisheye for $190 BestPriceOptics via eBay

Authorized Rokinon dealer bestpriceoptics via eBay has the Rokinon 8mm f/3.5 Fisheye for Canon for $189.99.

This is the absolute lowest price we’ve ever seen for this great value lens. Most mounts are available. Note this isn’t the “HD” version so you won’t get a circular view with a full-frame camera as it is partially obstructed by the non-removable lens hood.

You can see some fun and creative photos taken with the 8mm f/3.5 fisheye in the Flickr group for this lens.

Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS for $249 at BestPriceOptics eBay

Authorized Rokinon dealer bestpriceoptics via eBay has the Rokinon 16mm f/2.0 ED AS UMC CS Lens for Canon EF-S for $249.99. This is an eBay daily deal.

This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen for this lens — this lens is a recent one, first was announced in June 2013. This deal has 8 of the 9 mounts available — everything except (unfortunately) Canon M.

This lens is designed for crop bodies exclusively, and will vignette if mounted on a full-frame sensor. You can check out a flickr gallery for the lens, or read more at B&H’s Explora. Other dealers (such as B&H) currently have this for $315-$370.

Canon Refurb Store Restocked Again, Just Now

The Canon Direct Store sale on refurbished lenses, speedlites, and EOS bodies just got restocked. They’re offering $125 off a purchase of $500, $50 off a purchase of $250. On a $500 item, that is up to 25% off. Add to cart to see the discount.

Again, the best deals are the ones that are close to $250 or $500. We’ve listed some of the best deals (as well as the very popular items) above.

As usual, check out our refurbished stock tracker for the full list.

Amazon Lightning Deal: Spyder4Elite Color Calibration for $169.99

UPDATE: B&H Photo Video has now matched this at $169.00! The Amazon deal is now expired. I’m told the B&H deal is today only as well.

UPDATE 2: B&H deal expired now too.

In a lightning deal, Amazon has the Datacolor Spyder4Elite color calibration tool for $169.99. This is the lowest price we’ve ever seen — regular price is $249.

Effectively it is a free upgrade from the Spyder4Pro which is the same price ($169).

This is a lightning deal that expires at 2 PM ET today, if not sold out first.

Price War: Lexar 64GB 1066x UDMA 7 Compact Flash for $88.95 B&H

B&H Photo Video and Adorama have been locked in an epic price war over the Lexar 64GB 1066x UDMA 7 CompactFlash. They have been leap-frogging, beating each other’s prices by $1 at time. This started at $93 a few days ago!

This card is discounted greatly with an instant rebate from a regular price of $242 just a few weeks ago.

Now B&H Photo Video has the upper hand and is offering a great deal on this CF card: only $88.95. This is the best price we’ve ever seen for this memory card, and a fantastic deal for a UDMA 7 card.

It has been so popular that both stores are now out of stock, but they are taking back-orders for delivery in an estimated 2-4 weeks, according to B&H.

Warning: Avoid Abe’s of Maine and Other Bait & Switch Retailers

We often get asked why we never list Abe’s of Maine, or post some of their “great deals”, notably the EOS 6D for $1289. The short answer is, we classify the new Abe’s of Maine as a Bait & Switch store, alongside other notable ones including Ryther Camera, 42nd Street Photo, Fumfie, and DigitalOutlets.

We say “new” Abe’s of Maine because the “old” Abe’s of Maine (“Abe’s Electronics Center, Inc.”) used to be a reliable Canon authorized retailer who would regularly beat B&H or Adorama by $20-$30; you’d just have to endure a short up-sell call (and if you were firm they would still ship your order at the advertised price). Unfortunately this Abe’s of Maine filed for bankruptcy protection in November 2012.

The new Abe’s of Maine (corporate name now “Westpark Electronics, LLC.”) has been nothing but bad news: first, they are no longer a Canon authorized dealer; worse, readers report a bait & switch style up-sell upon placing orders. UPDATE: At the time we wrote the post in May 2014, we had not heard a positive story since July 2013. Recently we’ve heard of a few successfully completed transactions (after the upsell call described below.)

The common bait & switch is you are asked to upgrade your “import body” as it is made out of plastic and at an inferior foreign factory (blatant lie: US and import items are made side-by-side in the same factory and are the same quality), or that your purchase comes with an inferior battery or memory card and an upgrade to a much better version is needed (another lie: the over-priced “upgrade” will be to some generic or no-name brand). If you don’t agree to any of these “upgrades” your order will be delayed indefinitely, claiming a lack of stock; a lengthy process would be needed to get your cancellation processed and your money back.

We strongly recommend staying away from Abe’s of Maine and other stores that are, in our opinion, bait & switch (some of the worst are named above).
