The recent flurry of refurbished restocks has everyone wondering: is the Canon Store going to have one last refurbished sale this year? We don’t know for sure, but here’s what the history has said about when an end-of-year sale might start:
- 2023: Wednesday, December 27th, 6 PM ET
- 2020-2022: No dedicated December sale
- 2019: Monday, December 16th, Midnight ET
- 2018: Sunday, December 23rd, Midnight ET
- 2017: Friday, December 15th, Midnight ET and Friday, December 29th
A late-December refurbished sale used to be staple of the Canon Store, until a three year hiatus from 2020-2022. Was 2023’s sale the return of the tradition? Only time will tell, watch our site to find out!
Don’t miss any refurbished deals: subscribe to our site, add items to your watchlist (from the refurbished stock tracker), or monitor the refurb livestream to see both restocks and new sales!
Everything suggests that people are using bots and other monitoring tools to make purchases very quickly and automatically. I’m not sure whether there are any limits on how many refurbished items each customer can buy, but if this continues, it will be very difficult to purchase anything.
Iām not seeing evidence of bot purchases, to be honest. What I do see is thousands (tens of thousand?) of photographers who stalk the sales for what might only be tens of available cameras and lenses.
Hmm, hard to know really. I almost went with no sleep over almost a week with no luck, I just want the 85 or the 50mm f1.2
You and hundreds of other people. š
Other than the initial quantity, there were probably 3-4 copies of that lens restocked in total over the entire Black Friday sale duration. Each restock there were probably 100+ CPW readers alone clicking through to the Canon store and trying to buy it, within seconds/minutes. CPW readers were often successful buying most of the refurb restock lenses (many sent thank-you notes after).
Not sure if you got 50mm f1.2
Why do you think so few copies?
There’s an initial allocation available at the beginning of the sale (I estimate anywhere from 10 to 50 copies depending on which item). Once that sells out (and it sold out this time within 5 minutes for most items), the remaining “restocks” are just cancelled orders or failed payments, usually not a “real” restock.
Thanks for the answer and thanks for your site! Have a nice day, hope I can get the 50 or the 85
recent refurb sales have been a letdown…much better prices were available in sept oct…black friday does not count as things go away as soon as they appear
