This is a no-brainer must buy at this price!
Hmm, this is a great price. However, I own a Sigma EF 150-600 C, which I bought back in 2016 for $699. Would this be any better than that? The reviews I saw suggest this lens is actually quite a bit worse than the Sigma. Except the AF, which is really quite bad on the Sigma using the Canon EF-RF control ring adapter. Should I get this in addition? The price is fantastic.
I’m a huge fan of the Sigma C 150-600mm. The big difference for me is the weight. If you do any walkaround type photography, the RF 100-400 is probably much more versatile lens at one third the weight — missing 50% on the telephoto end though.
How bad is the AF of Sigma EF 150-600 C with the EF-RF adapter? Could you please share the review that you saw?
Ultimately, it depends on your use-case scenarios. If you use the Sigma to shoot birds, then no, this Canon does you no good. As a walk-around telephoto lens, then this one might be OK for you.
For me, the price is very enticing. But at f5.6 to f8, I don’t foresee myself needing this. That f8 on the long end removes it from 75% of my shooting scenarios.
