Dissecting the Deal: How to Get a New 5D Mark IV for $2450 Net

Many readers are on the fence about the printer bundle deals, especially if you do not want the free printer or battery grip. If you’re willing to do some legwork, you can net up to $300-$320 from the sale of these pieces, taking the price of brand new 5D Mark IV (with a 1-year Canon USA warranty and a 13-month Canon CarePAK PLUS warranty) down to about $2450 net, or a brand new 6D Mark II to about $1150 net.

First, start with the B&H bundle of the EOS 5D Mark IV or EOS 6D Mark II, with free battery grip, free PIXMA PRO-100, free paper, free memory, and free extra battery. It’s only $1399 for the 6D Mark II and $2749 for the EOS 5D Mark IV, after a $350 Canon USA mail-in rebate.

There is a decent market for the Canon BG-E20 battery grip. The used market (looking at eBay completed listings) is trending to $200 for a BG-E20 in New or Like-New condition. Used dealer KEH Camera is offering about $125 (net, as it includes pre-paid shipping) for a BG-E20 battery grip in Like New condition, a very pain-free option. The market may get saturated, so we recommend locking your price in with a 2-minute quote at KEH Camera if you’re looking to sell. The market has been trending to $120 for the 6D Mark II BG-E21 battery grip in New or Like-New condition.

As for PIXMA PRO-100 printer parts: the print head fetches about $100-120 when still sealed (eBay Completed Sales), and the full ink tanks fetch about $90-$100 (eBay Completed Sales). Both are small and easily shipped. After shipping and fees, you can expect to net $140-$170 for these printer parts.

When that’s all done, you end up with a EOS 5D Mark IV for a net price of $2450, or a EOS 6D Mark II for net $1150, and you can keep the free memory card and spare battery as a reward for your hard work.

The thing that stinks for an NJ resident like myself though is the tax, which is close to an extra $200 🙁
