I bought the small version which works great on smaller cameras like my G5X

Bought two of these when they were 129 a few weeks ago. From what I understand, 119 was the price they were last bf. A good deal on a flash. Rechargeable battery and built in reciever, which can also remote trigger as long as one is mounted as the master on camera. I bought a transmitter to fire both off camera. Beats my 430 ex ii in all categories, probably comparable to the more expensive flashes too.

This is better than the 430 EX II? I’m curious, because I have 5 refurbed 430 EX II’s that I use for off-camera flash night-photography. For simplicity’s sake, I use the Cactus V5 transceivers to remote fire them. The 430ii’s do have their issues, but everyone else I know who does the same prefers the Yongnou 560’s & 600’s. In comparison, they claim my 430’s are brighter and fire faster. I’m starting to see the difference in brightness as I use them more. Since these have a lithium-ion battery, do they recycle faster when used at full power? And what is the brightness compared to the 430ii’s?

Hi David, you seem to be a lot more into flashes than I am, so I am not sure I can answer all your questions. I took my gear into the basement to put some of it to the test. At full power, the Flashpoint is brighter, but the 430 is still bright. Not sure this was a good test, since I don’t think I would ever need to shoot this way, but if you are shooting at night then I can see why you would. Point is, with the way light was bouncing everywhere it’s hard to tell what would work for you. In high speed, the Flashpoint fired longer and with better recharge. I use an 80D, so I’m at 7fps for scale (the 430ex has never kept up for long the few times I have used it for that). Can’t speak for the yongs, don’t have them and don’t know anyone that can loan me one to test. The lith battery is pretty sweet, especially since it can recharge, but it also means stronger power more often. I don’t know that I would recommend buying 5 of them on my recommendation though. I was saying more for people that want a flash and don’t have one, this would be cheaper and in my opinion better than the 430EX, has a great menu that is easy to use, and syncs up well with my other flashpoint for wireless. If your setup is working, and you have invested a lot of money into it, then stick with that. Again, I am just a causal flash user, so I don’t know that I can really advise you for your setup. I have it for doing things like birthday parties, where I am turning the power down and bouncing, and/or using a modifier.

So this can function as full e-ttl auto on a canon?

Yes, full E-TTL with high speed sync option.
