Still an extreme ripoff, the lens is no better than the old one, and those are selling for under $600…the camera is not much better than the Mk3 either.

Carl why do you troll CPW? If you’ve stopped using canon why don’t you move on?

    2. May 8, 2017 at 12:23 am EDT

I just remember having conversations with you prior to you switching to Nikon. All you do now is whine about canon. I don’t understand why you waste your time if canon is so horrible.

Why would I bother refuting claims you’ve made with zero proof?

    4. May 8, 2017 at 12:30 am EDT

Seeing that I don’t own either the lens or the camera I really have nothing to defend.

      You are pretty amusing though.

Pretty sure we’ve conversed on cpw posts in the past

Might have been there. I also got banned. I apparently pointed out overpriced used gear in comparison to new gear one too many times

Well you are a troll but that’s not name calling that’s just fact 🙂

Camera, lens or both? Would grabbing a 5dmk3 be a better choice before they disappear?

The lens is a piece …. I would not touch the 5d III because it has the poorest dynamic range compared to even some P&S cameras. If you’re thinking about the 5D III and you’re not shooting actions, the 6D is a much better choice in terms of high ISO performance and low light focusing capability. On the other hand, if money is not an issue (if you must have a Canon), get the 5D IV.

Why they are insistent on pushing this 24-105 over the 24-70 2.8 that everyone actually uses for this camera is purely because Canon can’t sell this worthless 24-105 lens.

    1. May 8, 2017 at 10:34 pm EDT

I guess you can think of the 24-105mm as the kit lens for expensive cameras. Never had it, is it really that bad?

If I had to guess they don’t bundle the 24-70mm becasue it would push the base price up much higher. As much as it pains me to say this, not everyone buying a 5D knows what makes a lens worthwhile, they only know they “need to have the best camera.” They have no idea why the 5D is a good camera, they just know it’s a full frame system, and that means it’s better. At 4000 bucks, with a lens, they think they can start owning the world of photography. Then they start looking into a new lens, and go on amazon, and ask “does this EF-S lens fit my 5D?” Everytime I see this question pop up, I know everything I need to know about the asker; they bought way more camera than they can even use.

Moral of the story, it makes the kit look attractive to ignorant buyers. Or for that, maybe some people jsut like that lens.

over priced but love the 24/105 lens

  5. May 4, 2017 at 8:53 pm EDT

Why are you being so hard on this lens and camera? I was considering purchasing the two and now wonder if there are better options.

    1. May 4, 2017 at 10:25 pm EDT

I think the camera is good, but if you’re going to get a full frame camera, why get a lens that only opens to 4 instead of 2.8; I’d rather see the camera paired w/the 24-70/2.8 or 70-200/2.8, or all 3 bundled at a big discount!

      1. May 8, 2017 at 10:36 pm EDT

Wouldn’t hold my breath on that. They aren’t going to bundle together lenses that will sell jsut fine on their own, and then discount them. It’s just not how the world works.

    2. May 4, 2017 at 10:33 pm EDT

that’s what I’d been looking at was if it was a 2.8, I have version one don’t think I need this one then

    3. May 8, 2017 at 12:22 am EDT

Because with the low light capability of full frame cameras and IS on this and not the 2.8 it’s almost negligible unless you really need the shallower depth of field.

I shoot the 24-70 f4 IS. Since I’m using it for landscapes 90% of the time the fact that it goes to f4 and not 2.8 doesn’t matter to me at all.

      1. May 9, 2017 at 8:55 pm EDT

I bet that is an awesome landscape lens. I am saving up for the F2.8 to compliment my 70-200mm 2.8 for shooting indoor sports. What camera do you use it on?
