Ug, the EF 75-300mm, and the 18-55mm is the IS ii, not the STM. Even so, that is a lot of gear to get someone that otherwise has nothing started, for a pretty good price. If it was me, I would personally rather they forgo the printer, and upgrade the 75-300 to the EF-S 55-250mm IS STM instead, a much better lens.

The printer really sweetens the deal. If you have no intention of keeping it, you can sell the ink and print head, which puts you sub-$250 for the camera kit. A good starter package for someone new to photography.

I guess, except that they won’t have any really great shots to print off that were made by that lens combo, especially the 75-300mm. I would agree it isn’t a horrible starting point. If I were advising someone to get this, I would probably do as you have stated; sell the printer and ink, and then tell them to ditch the 75-300mm and get the 55-250 STM instead.

Basically, Canon just wanted you to get that printer and start paying for the ink cartridges thereafter. The whole camera kit is just garbage…

LOL, never thought of it that way, but that is the printing industries whole business model. It’s why printers are fairly cheap now; they make all their money on the insane mark-up for ink.

I usually do every one of these deals and end up making $100 after I sell everything… I only keep the printer head. I have several backups. Also I use precision ink and refill myself so my prints cost me next to nothing when combined w/ the buy 1 get 9 free sale that happens twice a year.

I hope people who are new to photography will learn a lesson from your testimony. These Rebal Tx kits are total junks. If only people would be more educated about photographic equipment, then Canon/Nikon would stop selling these trash packages.

Are you saying the T6 is total junk? Or that this lens combo is? I think the T6 is a pretty solid entry level camera, good for someone that has no need for some of the higher functions of the XXD and XD line up, at least not yet. Even though i don’t like the 75-300mm lens in this bundle, a beginner is still going to learn how to compose and expose with it, so long as they venture away from the comfort zone of full auto shooting. Then they can start getting higher quality lenses that expand their skills as they go, and eventually they will outgrow the body and get a better one of those too. You might see that as a money making scheme by Canon (in a nutshell, all profitable companies are money making schemes), but I don’t think someone who is just a little interested in learning photography is willing to dump thousands of dollars in initial investment in complicated gear that they have no idea how to use. These cheap, entry level kits give them access to something they otherwise had no access to. It removes the barrier for entry. If it wasn’t for a deal I got on a Rebel XT years ago, I might never have become a photographer, and that kit came with the 75-300mm and 18-55mm lens that is in this kit. Irony, I am your bitch…

There are these things called smartphones. They take just as good pictures as most entry level DSLR when only compared their jpeg performance. I did a little comparison myself, my iPhone’s jpeg IQ and colors are just as good as my $2000 DSLR Canon & Nikon minus the resolution of course. Your argument about entry level for beginners was true before the advancement in smartphone cameras….

Also, if you set your smartphone into shooting in a square format rather than your regular 4×6, you find yourself think harder before your click the shutter on your smartphone…thus make you a better photographer. The point is, if you are such a beginner and don’t know much about the various equipment, your smartphones are good enough for snap shots…

For the beginners, this is a gold mine. And that’s the point.
