Grey Market 5D Mark IV for $2799, Elec.Valley via eBay

There is a price drop on the EOS 5D Mark IV in the grey market. Electronics Valley via eBay has this camera for $2799.00, that is $100 lower than Black Friday. Please note this is a grey market camera, and Electronics Valley (also known as BigValueInc) is not a Canon USA authorized dealer. A Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed, only a 1-year store warranty is included. Historically Canon USA has honored the warranty on grey market items, but that is completely at their discretion. Also, there may be an upsell call — be sure to decline all upgrades.

If you prefer brand new from an authorized Canon dealer with a 1-year Canon USA warranty, please consider our street price of $3199.

Lots of readers asking if there any “gotchas” with the grey market purchase. There are three important ones. One is return policy — unless the item is defective, there really isn’t one. The store will charge a hefty restock fee if you’re returning it. Once you’ve paid, even if the item hasn’t shipped, it’s difficult to cancel your order without invoking the return + restock. Please be sure you want this before paying. Second, is after-sales service. The vast majority of readers (probably 98%, 99%) haven’t experienced problems, but the 1-2% that do, it may take some patience to get your issue resolved (be it shipping damage, defective items, missing accessories, etc.) This isn’t a big operation (like most authorized dealers are) with the resources invested in customer service, this is why the price is so low! Third, in past sales the dealer has had issues filling orders in time, so please expect an additional 1-2 week delay.

Got mine from them. Registered fine on canons website and got carepak during the special.

Be careful. Since they ask for a receipt at warranty time or CarePAK time, they can still deny service later. Registering on the Canon site doesn’t say much…

CanonPriceWatch.com I hear ya. I don’t really expect to have any issues, or to receive “free” repair work in the event that issues arise. From everything I read, they won’t turn the camera away for the normal repairs within the year. Or paid work after that.

i thought they werent allowed to sell any more grey market cameras according to the canon lawsuit against them

    1. January 23, 2017 at 9:02 pm EDT

As far as I know, the lawsuit is still pending.

My guess is that they’re moving so many units, Canon turns a blind eye to them.

    1. January 23, 2017 at 9:02 pm EDT

They’re not a Canon dealer so Canon has no control over them. In fact, I believe Canon is suing them…

How do they get Canon products to sell if they aren’t authorized by Canon to sell them? Not trying to be smart, genuinely curious how that works.

I bought canon 24-105 from gray market via canon price watch, I even bought by 5d mark iii 3 months ago from camera canada, an authorized dealer of canon via canon price watch. both were awesome and fabulous. I contacted canon price watch via email and they contacted the dealer then I paid the price via paypal and got the camera in 3 days, shipped through usps from canada to NY
the 24-105 was bought from gray market, but when I registered the item over canon’s website I don’t know what happened they accepted my serial number and I suddenly got 2 years promotional warranty,

make sure if u guys buy gray market or authorized items listed on canon price watch, you contact them, and let them make the deal, you won’t get a bad item that’s for sure.

    thanks to canon price watch.

With the exception of the Grey Market, the price sounds about right when comparing performance and value against other competitors…Canon should make this their retail price (US version).

Last time I ordered from this seller on the 28th of Nov (cyber Monday) it took 8 calendar days (including 6 business) days to ship the camera. It sounded like they started selling the cameras before they actually received their shipment. The customer support via emails was not helpful at all. They charged me immediately after I placed my order and created a shipping label on the 2nd business day but never actually shipped it and kept on saying your order is approved which really annoyed me to the core. What the hell is order approval who is that joker approving my order after taking my money? Mine had the menu in English and Japanese. I do not know if that is a sign this is a Japanese market camera or not. Also they do not ship them in the order they sell them. There was at least one person who said he placed order after me and his camera was shipped before mine. Regardless I would not buy from these guys again. I am posting here to set peoples expectations.

going by the firmware version on the manual, this might be new, but sitting on the shelf a long time, I think, unless they don’t change the print, I could be wrong, might be nice to mention there are legal things pending towards this seller as well

I ended up taking the plunge on this deal on ebay last week and shortly after I received a link to this blog post (via my phones Google Now) that reassured me in my decision. I’m happy to say that a little over a week later I have received the camera and everything checks out. It came in the correct packaging (although it had some Japanese marking on it), and with all of the accessories.
I did a test shoot and the camera works as expected – the only issue I have found if I had to nitpick was that the image count started at 4.

I’d like to state that the reason I took the risk of grey market was simply a matter of cost and perceived value. Coming from the MkII, MKIII, and now MKIV, the value of the MKIV given what it offers compared to the MKIII is a sub 3k proposition in my eyes. Time will tell if my opinion will change in favor of the IV but as of now I purchased simply because I didn’t want to move to Sony (yet) and I need to stay up to date with technology – which is something quite frankly the MKIV doesn’t advance the game with but simply falls into the fold of what is currently being offered by the competition. Hope this helps anyone who was considering one!
