Super Hot: Grey Market 5D Mark IV for $2899, Elec.Valley via eBay

Unexpected: a substantial price drop on the EOS 5D Mark IV in the grey market. Electronics Valley via eBay has this camera for $2899.00. Please note this is a grey market camera, and Electronics Valley (also known as BigValueInc) is not a Canon USA authorized dealer. A Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed, only a 1-year store warranty is included. Historically Canon USA has honored the warranty on grey market items, but that is completely at their discretion. Also, there may be an upsell call — be sure to decline all upgrades.

If you prefer brand new from an authorized Canon dealer with a 1-year Canon USA warranty, please consider our street price of $3199.

UPDATE: Lots of readers asking if there any “gotchas” with the grey market purchase. There are two important ones. One is return policy — unless the item is defective, there really isn’t one. The store will charge a hefty restock fee if you’re returning it. Once you’ve paid, even if the item hasn’t shipped, it’s difficult to cancel your order without invoking the return + restock. Please be sure you want this before paying. Second, is after-sales service. The vast majority of readers (probably 98%, 99%) haven’t experienced problems, but the 1-2% that do, it may take some patience to get your issue resolved (be it shipping damage, defective items, missing accessories, etc.) This isn’t a big operation (like most authorized dealers are) with the resources invested in customer service, this is why the price is so low!

SUPER Price! $300 reduction is not a joke! If this was the street price (auth dealer) I would have pulled the trigger on it RIGHT NOW!

How has people’s experience with Electric Valley been?

Overall positive, in the high-nineties approval rating. Typical for a wholesaling grey market outfit.

I made a purchase from them a while back. The camera box was opened and a US compatible converter put in place. The manuals and any warranty cards etc were removed.

And I did not receive any upsell calls either!

I don’t mind not having USA warranty since canon products never break in the first year. My concern is after the first year, if needed will canon service my camera even if I am willing to pay out of pocket, or they just won’t touch it if it’s not bought from authorized dealer?

From reader reports, the current Canon USA policy seems to permit repairing of grey market items that are past the 1-year warranty period (as long as you pay for the repair, just like any repair outside of the 1-year warranty period). However, I’d expect that’s subject to change at any time.

For example, Nikon does not perform repairs on grey market bodies or lenses, period, even if you’re paying for the repair.

One more point to add, you will likely not receive a Canon charger but a 3rd party charger for the US market.

        Good point, thanks.

It seems one of the buyers has bought the item from this seller before as he pointed out above. In that he also pointed out that charger’s connector was replaced with appropriate connector for US. Many on other forums have also said the same that they did receive everything as they expected except the US related documents were not in the box. Ultimately probably comes to how much risk you are willing to take based on past experiences of most. Seems like the price is really nice. Knowing Canon products are great quality to begin with, probably worth taking that little risk I guess

anyone who purchased from electronics valley this time has received the camera or even got it shipped? I bought it Monday 11/27/2016 around 5 am. It’s been 3 full business days went by and these knuckleheads has not shipped the camera yet. I send them a message last evening, I do not know if it is because of my message or not they added a UPS tracking # and someone responded to my message saying your order is “approved” and scheduled for shipping. I am really do not understand what the f*** is that approval after taking my money. It’s been more than 24 hours since the tracking # is added but the camera is not yet dropped at UPS. I live so close that if they ship it I will get the item the next day. I was hoping they will ship (hand it over to UPS) at least by Tuesday but Wednesday is already over and they haven’t shipped it yet.

That’s probably Catch #3 about these deals. They claim to ship them on time, but in reality, they’re just printing the shipping labels. Expect a few extra days delay.

As of today (12/05/2016) after 6 full business days and 8 calendar days the camera has not shipped yet. These crooks have sent me an email with the same UPS tracking # that was generated on 11/29 and claiming they have shipped it already and I have to wait 24-48 hours for UPS to update the tracking system. The truth is if they shipped it earlier this evening I would receive it in less than 24 Hrs. IMO it is not worth the hassle with these liars. Can I request you to post this warning next time when posting their lower price ads please?

Oh so sorry to hear. That can certainly be disturbing. I ordered one and also received it on time. Everything looks fine as expected. Have you checked with UPS in case the shipment is stuck on the way due to weather? Also sometimes UPS or local carrier could land up delivering to your neighbor. That happens to us sometimes as our mailbox is across from our home. Good Luck with your shipment.

They never shipped mine for sure. Today is the first time I got an email saying it is shipped but like I said earlier they just lied to me. Just tracked it again. The camera is not yet dropped at UPS.

Sounds like they finally shipped it yesterday. The strange thing was there was no origin or in between scans the first scan ever was at the destination UPS facility and it says out for delivery now. Regardless I will not order from this seller again
