Street Price Blowout Special: 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS for $1279 AR

With the recent announcement of the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II at $2199, it’s no surprise dealers are looking to move the older EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS (mark 1 version).

We now have a special street price of $1279 after the $200 Canon mail-in rebate, brand new from Canon authorized dealers with full Canon USA warranty. No tax and free shipping. That’s a whopping 42% less expensive than the new lens. There is very limited stock left of the old lens, so this price is only available while quantities last — and after that, it’s gone for good.

We also have great street prices on other lenses:

If you’ve been following prices on the 100-400mm mk I (perhaps through our handy price graphs), you’ll see this $1279 AR price is the lowest price seen for this lens in six years, since December 2008.

I know the II version hasn’t hit the streets yet but looking for thoughts on this one versus the new model. My biggest concern is the push/pull since I’ve never used a lens like that before.
