With the recent announcement of the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II at $2199, it’s no surprise dealers are looking to move the older EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS (mark 1 version).
We now have a special street price of $1279 after the $200 Canon mail-in rebate, brand new from Canon authorized dealers with full Canon USA warranty. No tax and free shipping. That’s a whopping 42% less expensive than the new lens. There is very limited stock left of the old lens, so this price is only available while quantities last — and after that, it’s gone for good.
We also have great street prices on other lenses:
- EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II: Street price of $1899 AR
- EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM: Street price of $1749 AR
- EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM: Street price of $989 AR
- EF 85mm f/1.2L II USM: Street price of $1759 AR
- EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM: Street price of $1319 AR
- EF 50mm f/1.2L USM: Street price of $1239 AR
- EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS: Street price of $799 AR

If you’ve been following prices on the 100-400mm mk I (perhaps through our handy price graphs), you’ll see this $1279 AR price is the lowest price seen for this lens in six years, since December 2008.
I know the II version hasn’t hit the streets yet but looking for thoughts on this one versus the new model. My biggest concern is the push/pull since I’ve never used a lens like that before.
I’ve had one since 2006 and am very pleased with it. Picked it up used for a grand
maybe I’ll wait then till II version is released and there are reviews. The mk I version will only get cheaper on ebay.
Mine is on the way…
