We now see that one Canon authorized dealer instituted an “add to cart” discount via eBay. They’re offering $10 off per every $150 spent on Canon lenses when added to cart, for example, the 24-70mm II is $1949 after $200 rebate and $150 discount. We’re wondering if this will be allowed (since it’s via eBay) or if we’ll see this quickly shutdown. It’s always good to see more price competition in the marketplace.

For this “deal”, the $10 per $150 spent discount is only an average 6% discount. On all items it is not as good as the average 10% discount available through our very popular street prices program, from authorized Canon dealers. This very intense analysis of eBay feedback is especially important for unauthorized dealers. We calculate and track our own “feedback score” that is more stringent than eBay’s feedback score. We only include feedback on high-value Canon items so dealers can’t pad their feedback (as is very common), and also penalize for “neutral” feedback instead of just ignoring it in the score (like eBay does).
