The long-awaited announcement for the EOS R5 and EOS R6 is coming up real soon — the announcement is scheduled for July 9th and we expect pre-orders to officially open on that date.
Given the ground-breaking specs and very competitive price point, there is unprecedented demand for these cameras. We’re also expecting that there will be low initial supply (as evidenced by the multiple announcement delays, rumored to be caused by supply chain issues). If you are interested in this camera, we highly recommend a pre-order as it will likely take some time before the camera is widely available in-stock.
Fastest Pre-Order Option: B&H or Adorama
If getting a camera as fast as possible is your priority, B&H or Adorama are the way to go. They already have landing pages up for the EOS R5 and they historically have been well-supplied at camera launches.
Although they now both collect tax to most states, they offer methods to help defray this cost: B&H‘s “Payboo” credit card pays you back the tax, where as Adorama‘s “Edge” card gives you 5% back or special financing. Apply for the cards now, to make sure everything’s ready for the big day.
Lowest Price Pre-Order Option: Street Price
If you prefer to save some money — from a dealer that does not collect tax to your state, along with extra bonuses or a lowered price — we expect to have a street price pre-order option on both the EOS R5 and EOS R6. We hope to start our street price pre-order on or shortly after the announcement day.
Historically, our street price dealers have been able to fill street price pre-orders within a day to a few weeks after the launch day of the item (depending on supply) — so if you’re willing to wait up to an extra few weeks, you can save money on a hot new product.
A good strategy is to pre-order at multiple places; we will send out regular updates on our street price pre-order progress and you can decide to cancel one pre-order or another as the ship date nears.
If you are interested in the street price, be sure to add the EOS R5 or EOS R6 to your watchlist, as we will be giving an early-bird opportunity to our watchlist subscribers.
