EOS 5D Mark III for $2549 from BigValueInc via eBay

BigValueInc via eBay has the Canon EOS 5D Mark III for $2549.99. This deal generally only lasts a few hours before selling out. They sold 120 bodies at this price last time in a little over 4 hours.

They’re not an authorized dealer, but the last three sales they’ve done at this price our users have reported getting USA warranty bodies, and we’ve heard no complaints. This is a deal as other authorized dealers are selling this for $3499 (except B&H, which has a special deal going now for $3099).

UPDATE: This deal has been very popular — 284 were sold in 24 hours.

EOS 6D + 24-105mm for $2199 and EOS 5D Mark III for $3099 at B&H

Not many deals to be had, especially in light of the recent price increases. However, B&H is running a few bundle promotions that come with free printers:

B&H Photo Video has a bundle of the EOS 6D with 24-105 Kit, PIXMA PRO-100 and SG-201 Photo Paper Semi-Gloss 13×19″ (50 Sheets) for $2199.00, after a $400 mail-in rebate. Other authorized dealers are selling the camera + lens kit alone for $2599. Click here to check out the deal at B&H Photo Video.

Canon’s Silent Labor Day Price Increase

Those who watch Canon prices would have noticed a significant price increase Labor Day weekend. Most items did not change in price, but several of the popular high-end L lenses went up significantly (anywhere from 13%-18%). On average, lenses are 3.8% more expensive than they were last month. The following graph tracks the “EOS Lens Price Index”, which reflects the average trend in new lens pricing at authorized dealers:

Some of the largest price increases included:

You can see the full list of increases on our Canon price list. Just scroll down and look for red.

It’s yet to be seen if this represents a new permanent price level or if it’s just Canon gearing up for a big “sale” in the coming fall and holiday months. What do you think is happening? Leave a comment with your interpretation!

First 70D Deal: Body + PRO-100 Printer Bundle for $1198 at BuyDig

BuyDig has a bundle of the brand-new EOS 70D and PIXMA PRO-100 for $1198.00, after a mail-in rebate ($400). The 70D’s new dual-pixel autofocus system, built into the sensor itself, is getting rave reviews; especially for video-shooters, who are making full use of the fluid auto-focus. I’m surprised to see this new body bundled into the printer rebate so soon, effectively a free printer with the purchase of the 70D.

Follow these steps to get the discount:

  1. Add the EOS 70D to your cart.
  2. Add the PIXMA PRO-100 to your cart.
  3. Free paper will also be added automatically, making you eligible for the $400 mail-in rebate.

We estimate the total savings to be $390.00 based on the lowest prices available:

Price Drop: EF 35mm f/2 IS USM for $599

Canon has finally realized that $799 is an unreasonable price for the EF 35mm f/2 IS, and has finally set something more realistic: $599.00 (currently available at B&H or Adorama.) This is the lowest price that we’ve seen for this lens since introduction.

We’re seeing this same price drop also at several other stores. We’re not sure at this point if it’s a permanent price drop or just a $200 instant rebate that started today. The other price drops are the EF 28mm f/2.8 IS (to $549), the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS (to $599), the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS (to $879), and the EF-S 10-22mm (to $649).

UPDATE: The price for refurbished 17-55mm is now $703.99 and for 10-22mm it is now $519.99. These are always pegged at 80% of new lens MAP, so this means that what we saw is a permanent price drop and not an instant rebate.

Canon Instant Rebate Tonight?

We’re noticing some significant price drops today at various retailers who are known for “jumping the gun”. Specifically, the EF 28mm f/2.8 IS is $549, the EF 24mm f/2.8 IS is $599, and the EF 35mm f/2 IS is $599. Also, the EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS and EF-S 10-22mm are dropping to match prices from an eBay deal earlier this week.

This all points to some new instant rebate or price change happening soon on some items (likely later tonight). Stay tuned and we’ll post details as soon as we have them.

UPDATE: There’s no sign of an instant rebate regarding these 5 lenses, and it looks like the “official” refurbished prices for these lenses changed as well. This means what we saw as a permanent price drop, not an instant rebate. Even better!
