Why is the Refurbished EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS ($499) Still In-Stock?

One oddity in the Canon refurb sale is the refurbished EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM for $499.00, which is strangely still in-stock, despite its hot 57% discount from regular price.

We think this is because Canon has messed up the listing image on their site, showing a picture of the non-L EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM instead. (Many readers have emailed us to tell us we’ve made a mistake and that the deal is not for the L-version.)

The deal is indeed for the L-version of the lens: you can confirm this by looking at the title, description, and specifications for the lens. Also contrast with the refurbished non-L lens which has its own (separate) listing. Take advantage of this deal at the Canon Direct Store — which is only available because many don’t realize this error.

I saw this. Chatted to a Canon rep, they confirmed it was the 2.8L IS, Macro just had the wrong picture. ordered one immediately (that was 3 day ago). Have received it and it is the correct lens. I notice itโ€™s out of stock now.

I ordered one as well. Probably only a few copies were left. I am about to receive it as well.

I was wondering as well. This is a crazy deal seeing used prices on eBay are around $600-700 and up. Thank you ๐Ÿ™‚
