Still too much
In 2018, I bought a package deal that included a Pixma Pro100 and a battery grip for $950 after rebate. I regret selling the printer for $200 and keeping the 5D3 after two years. I don’t think $899.00 for a refurbished camera is worth it. Even if it’s for a new body, I would recommend the RP body over this.
Exactly. Prices remain artificially high, and the refurbished prices reflect this. A classic example, the EF 100mm f2.8 Macro is priced at $799 on this refurbished sale. Yet I purchased it brand new via the CPW Street Price Program for $699 back in 2016. Since that time, the refurbished price for this lens should have gone DOWN, not UP.
There are two factors at play. The first is costs have gone up significantly — inflation alone is cumulatively 25% since 2016, so what was $699 then is $873 now.
Second, Canon likely cut production of this lens significantly (retooling lines to newer RF lenses). Supply of this lens is reduced and the little demand is likely willing to pay a “premium” price for this lens.
The used market is the true gauge of supply/demand for the lens; Canon controls the new and refurb price.
