Must be ghost stock. I’ve got two orders in from the Canon store. One in November and one in December of 2020 and nether has shipped yet.

You can try to call the Canon Store and they might be able to process your backorder using the current stock.

Just got off the phone with Canon. The warehouse does have stock but apparently they have multiple orders for the refurb RF28-70 dating back to early November that will be fulfilled in order of the date the order was placed. Not holding my breath for my mid-December order.

I called Canon (I have been backordered since Dec). They said that the items aren’t really “in-stock” right now, but that when they receive Refurbished units from the “factory” that they fulfill backordered orders first, and that they need to check the new units into inventory before they can do that.

So even though it shows in-stock on their website, they are not actually in-stock.

Going to echo the same as reproman. Ordered one of 23rd December. Still nothing. Called Canon Support, they said, there are a lot of people ahead of me and their order will be fulfilled with this stock. No ETAs.

I am still waiting for my copy since Dec 22. When I learned about the availability, I called them right away on Thursday, and the representative said my order was blocked but could go forward now; the lens would get shipped on Friday.
I checked today, and the order is still showing as “Back-ordered”, and credit card was not charged.
Needless to say, I am fuming.

I got a similar response when I called Canon for the 3rd time. Said my orders were “blocked” and that they would remove the block so order can be fulfilled. I ordered this lens on Dec 22, and a 70-200 lens on Dec 16. When I ordered, got an email confirmation the lens(es) were in stock. Never got any email from Canon saying they were backordered. Many weeks later I did receive emails asking how I like my new lenses…which prompted me to log into Canon website.. it showed both my orders as Backordered. I have called Canon every time I see refurbished stock available online, and get a runaround. Asked them last week, and this was the first time they said my orders were “Blocked”. Never got a clear understanding of why that happened, but was told that when in blocked status, my order would have never be fulfilled, so they removed the block. I guess I need to keep calling them to make sure my orders don’t go into blocked status again (I don’t see any way to determine this on my own).

P.S. They did say there were a limited quantity of lenses in stock when I called them. I asked if they could process my order with one of those lenses (as CPW suggested) but no dice.
