Canon Refurbished “Restock”: RF 70-200mm, EOS 5Ds R, and More

The Canon Direct Store restocked a number of popular refurbished lenses and cameras. Included in the restock is the RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM and the EOS 5Ds R.

Many customers have experienced issues with the Canon Store — when ordering an “in-stock” item their order goes to backorder immediately. We’re not sure if this is real stock, but it is an opportunity to try to place an order at these prices.

Check out our refurbished stock tracker for a list of all items available. Refurbished items from the Canon Direct Store come with a 1-year Canon USA warranty.

My two Canon Refurb orders are on back-order since Dec 15 and 20, respectively.

They need to get their act together! My guess is this “restock” is just filling old orders and not real stock.

You need to call them. Their online sales system does not seem to sync with their inventory. Same thing happened to me, but I called before they went out of stock again.

I ordered on Dec 24th when my camera was listed as in stock. The website and my confirmation email both said in stock. I still haven’t received it. This post says the same camera is back in stock today. I just called to check on my order and it it listed as backordered.

I also ordered on December 1st , have called and been told back ordered items are cancelled after talking with him for 15 mins , I asked when I would be informed of the cancelation as he stated he had just remembered that info, I asked to speak to a supervisor and was on hold a further hour till the line was disconnected. I have 3 orders on backorder and the one I used PayPal credit with isn’t even listed on my account.

      They canceled your order?

he said ” he just remembered that backordered items that aren’t in stock are canceled”, after that statement I asked to speak to a supervisor , and was cut off after another hour on hold, I came of the phone and just repurchased one item and I have now received that order, and my other orders are all still on backorder, including the lens I reordered. I will be calling to cancel that order but not while this promotion is on as hold times are ridiculous.

I just got off the phone with canon customer support and explained my situation. My lens was still on backorder for over a month. I let them know the refurbished lens i wanted had been restocked. The agent was happy to cancel my previous order and placed a new one with the 15% off. I was told that their system will place a permanent hold on unfilled orders for refurbished products. Canon’s website will not automatically fulfill orders for refurbished products even if there is a restock.

Also, i did not have to ask the agent to cancel and replace the order. She suggested that. She had to place me on hold a few times to check with their inventory people to confirm the lens was actually in stock and with her manager to remove the hold but it was possible. I would keep at it until they get this sorted. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I had several very similar experiences in 2020 with Canon Store. This is a big reason why I switched to Sony. (not trolling!) The service has just gotten awful. Lots of runaround, cancellations, etc.
