I can say from experience Magmod works. I use the sphere the most often at a 45 degree angle when I am in bad light and have no chance to bounce the flash. I recently got the bounce mod and it works pretty good too. I like that the magnets on it are set up so that you can mount it facing forward or turned 90 degrees. This allowed me to flip my flash head 90 degrees, so that when I would flip from normal to portrait orientation all I had to do was flip the flash up or down instead of having to re-orient everything, and the bounce still did it’s thing. I kind of wish I had just gotten the whole kit now that I know how well it works, since I don’t have the gels, but I didn’t want to drop the money on the whole thing right off the rip (200 normally). If you are looking for a flash mod that really does work, this is what I would suggest.
It looks like the basic kit is also reduced a little too, 90 instead of 100. That gets you the mount, the grid, and the sphere (most useful accessory in my opinion). If you weren’t looking to drop so much on this, maybe that would be the better way to go for you. Like I said before though, if I knew then what I know now I would have gone with the whole kit, especially if it was on sale. I don’t recall a lot of times that this was reduced in price.
