B&H: EOS 5D Mark III for $1999 Brand New, Lowest Price Seen Yet

The Canon EOS 5D Mark III has been discounted to the lowest price seen yet, brand new from an authorized Canon USA dealer. It’s now $1999.00 at B&H Photo Video. They also have the Canon EOS 5D Mark III with EF 24-105L IS Kit for $2599.00.

UPDATE: They’re also giving free Adobe Creative Cloud Photography Plan (12 month subscription) with purchase of the camera. See also other great bundles they have available.

There are few dealers that still have this body in-stock brand new, so this is likely the last clearance deal on this legendary Canon camera.

    Dinosaur of a camera though…

Elena Shumilova uses the 5DIII dinosaur Sid and I bet she makes better images with her eyes closed than with your eyes open using the latest tech 🙂

Just googled Elena. To say she knows what she is doing would be an understatement. I could only hope to be half as good as her!

Still a relevant camera for portrait work, low light shooting, and astrophotography. People looking to go full frame from APS-C would do well to pick up a 5D3. I would probably advise to the 6D deal for 999 at Adorama or BnH for people that have tighter budgets though. 6D is also still relevant at that price for the same reasons I listed here. Neither camera is as feature rich as more recent bodies from all offerings, but a camera that made good images previously still does now, and there is a wide grey area for what is really needed vs what becomes excess. There are plenty of people shooting on outdated tech that produce great results.

Both are a little lacking for sports compared to even APS-C cameras these days, but can get the job done if need be.

Dinosaur–how so? The 5D may be in some respects, but the 5D iii? Many would beg to differ, and it’s still a hot seller, if that tells us anything.

There is some MIR, how do we use it?

The MIR is for buying a printer at the same time. The printer is currently $399 and the MIR is $350.

Better off getting a Canon 6D Mark II for two grand than old tech. They must be getting ready to discontinue it.

    1. February 19, 2018 at 4:59 pm EDT

I could be wrong, but i’m pretty sure the 5D3 has already been discontinued for a while.

For stills, the 5D3 is a very capable camera, but the 6D2 is not so much. The AF system of the 6D2 was taken straight from the 80D, like, literally. The points cover about 30% of the viewfinder, which is abysmal. The 5D3 has 61 points with a spread that is appropriate for a full frame camera, and is no less useful now than it was the day it was released. I would say the 6D2 is better for video, as it has the dual pixel and the fold out screen, even though it lacks the headphone jack the 5D3 has.

I would get the 5D3 for action based shots (unless you have money for a mkIV), the 6D2 for video, and the 6D1 for portraits and landscapes and general photography. All this assumes of course that you have glass to put on any of these that will give you an advantage over your current setup.

Only recently moved up from my 5Diii. It is pretty bulletproof, has great IQ, and is more capable than what most would need. Focus is right on and with good glass, can make some great images. Only reason I am letting my reliable friend go is that I could not resist a great deal for a 5Div (thanks CR!). The 5Diii will be relevant and an important product for years to come.
