Hot: 8TB WD External Hard Drive for $149 at Best Buy, with WD Reds

This hot deal from Best Buy is back. They have the WD easystore 8TB External USB 3.0 for only $149.99. This is a fantastic price for a 8 TB harddrive.

This deal is especially popular because WD appears to be using 8 TB Western Digital “Red” hard drives inside these external drive enclosures. Instructions are available on how to extract the drive from the enclosure. This is a fantastic deal as the Western Digital “Red” hard drives (suitable for NAS) typically go for about $274, making this about a $125 savings over buying the drive itself.

WD (Western Digital) are terrible. Poorly made. If Best Buy has Seagate external drives in stock—buy those.

Seagate? Year after year, seagates are the least reliable drives from the Backblaze stats. By a huge margin. HGST is the most reliable, followed by WD.

My 80gb WD drive has never failed in the decade I’ve had it. My 4 year old 2tb seagate has a failure problem.

Other way around. Seagate is junk. Hgst the best, wd enterprise almost as good. Wd reds and you’re good. Backblaze knows all

Seagates have the highest fail rate.

I’ve got a 1TB cheap ass external from WD that I have and still heavily use since ‘09 and it has no issues. I’ve had 3 failed seagate 3TB drives over the years

Rocky Restivo, it’s not quite as cheap as it was a few days ago, but still pretty good if you need an external.
