Which would be the better buy the Mark5III or this new 6D? They are so close in price now…

When all else is equal, go for the newer tech (after waiting to see real-world sample images)

Thank you, Jay. I ordered the Mark III last week and love it because of the focus system. I have the 6D and you might know that they announce after I got the MarkIII. I am still in my 30 day range to return and have to decide. I love my 6D except for the focus system.

Hopefully someone on my class has one soon so I get to play with it for a few hours lol

Bonnie C. Smith Ah, the inevitable announcement on the day I bought… it never fails.

the ONLY benefit of the 5d3 over this new 6D2 will be dual card slots.
Everything else will side with the new 6D2.

For photography 6d mk1 is almost same performance with 5D mk3, new 6D must smoke 5D mk3 easily.

I would get the 6d2. Reason flip screen. Very useful for landscape and unusual angle. Faster response. Touch screen. Better LCD. Also for resale value of 5d iii will drop faster as time passes. Also lighter. Very low light focusing capability much better than 5diii. Better ISO. More dynamic range resulting in better shadow recovery. HDR. Definitely 6Dii

5d mk iii if you want to use the full capabilities of magic lantern. If you don’t know what this is go google search. It allows you to record in 14bit 4K raw, 1080 12 bit 60fps etc on yours 5d iii

Ashwin Chathuruthy, thank you! You made my decision for me. I just shipped the Mark 5 III back and will purchase the new 6D II when it comes out!

Canon must have a reason behind not offering 4K on lot of their cameras. Who knows. I don’t really need it because I don’t even have a 4K HDTV or the space for it. It takes HUGE amount of space and a powerful computer to do editing. No need for it. 1080p is good enough.

    1. June 29, 2017 at 5:13 am EDT

Some people want good photography camera at lower price, so they compensate it on video compatibility to make reasonable price.

    2. June 29, 2017 at 5:33 am EDT

Sony has a 4K mirrorless for similar price as a canon 6D mark II.

    3. June 29, 2017 at 12:44 pm EDT

Never shot a video with any of my DSLRs and don’t plan on it. Wish they’d just sell a non video capable “photographer” body for less LOL

      Eh… unless it’s it’s better than my 5d I ain’t interested

  6. June 29, 2017 at 6:15 am EDT

Since I already have a 24-105 lens, I would go with the body only option. Was hoping to see a 24-70 kit lens offered as well.

    1. June 29, 2017 at 8:43 am EDT

This would be a great option

  7. June 29, 2017 at 8:53 am EDT

Looks like Canon is competing with the Nikon 750 the specs are very comparable

  8. June 29, 2017 at 9:27 am EDT

Time to buy a 5D. Our 5D2 have taken a beating over the past 5 years and just keep working.

  9. June 29, 2017 at 10:15 am EDT

Dead in the water without 4K.

Obvious troll is obvious. Or delusional, take your pick.

  10. June 29, 2017 at 11:43 am EDT

I’m not concerned about the video features, if i’m going to shoot video i’ll use a camcorder, when I buy a camera I want the camera to work as a camera. Features are nice but too much can kill a good camera

  11. June 29, 2017 at 12:45 pm EDT

Sensor low light performance compared to 5Div. That’s my only question before I upgrade my two 6D bodies.

  12. June 29, 2017 at 1:49 pm EDT

    Screw 4K. I’d take 120fps with 1080p as a better option.

  13. June 29, 2017 at 1:52 pm EDT

Canon is missing the boat. My next DSLR will be a Sony unless they get their act together
