Excellent price. Snagged a $149 for the wife.

That’s what they should retail for new. Canon needs to get more realistic with pricing based on the quality of knockoffs around today.

I agree that they are overpriced when first released but I have used the cheaper 3rd party speed lights and I have since gotten all Canon. I can’t have mishaps while shooting weddings. On the other hand many people can get away with the cheaper ones depending on what your needs are..

I have a 430ii, 580ii, 600, and also 8 Yongnuo 600RTs. While the Canon 600 is the best, the Y600 s are 95% as good and $120! They work well for weddings

Thanks CanonPriceWatch.com this is a good service, just bought a refurb 600 w/ free shipping. I’m a diehard Canon person, in general I have not liked any third-party accessories, batteries and lenses, but the Y600s (I have two and the radio control unit) are a good value. They aren’t as sturdy as Canon-build flashes and they don’t recycle as fast, and overheat more easily. But for $125 each – not bad. Attention YongWuo: Build a sturdier flash with a better power supply and I’d be happy to pay $200 each.

I’ve only had issues with the battery doors. But they are $3.95 to replace…

out of curiosity; does anyone know WHY canon has completely eliminated the 580 ii from it’s vocabulary? Why are they still selling 430’s, and the newer 600’s for a TON more than the 580’s were?

    1. November 28, 2016 at 8:21 pm EDT

The “580” or “600” number is actually the “guide number” spec of the flash. 580 = 58 GN, 600 = 60 GN. The 600EX is just the successor to the 580, but had a higher guide number, thus the new naming.

    2. November 28, 2016 at 11:51 pm EDT

CanonPriceWatch.com technically correct, but the price of a new 580 (IR) is way lower than the price of a 600 (RF) for people who want a second or third Canon brand flash with a guide number greater than 43(0). There are currently no affordable options that I know of in the 580’s price range; are there?

    3. November 29, 2016 at 9:45 pm EDT

Not that I’m aware of, unless you go with an older 580EX. It’s very much a marketing decision, as they’re probably betting that they can make more selling a pricier RF flash than a basic 58-60 GN IR flash.
