UPDATE: We’re now hearing that dealers are receiving the cameras too late to ship them out on the 7th; the effective ship-out date will be the 8th. We’ve updated this post.
We’re told that the first allocation of EOS 5D Mark IV has been shipped from Canon. Dealers are allowed to ship the camera to end-customers beginning Thursday (September 8th.)
We’re also told the camera in body-only configuration is in short supply. A pre-order ($3499 at B&H, Adorama, Amazon, or Profeel) will go far in ensuring that you get your camera early.
Some of the dealers in our network have a limited number of EOS 5D Mark IV bodies that are not yet spoken for — if you’d like to be guaranteed a camera from this first allocation (shipping out Thursday), please contact us via the EOS 5D Mark IV street price form. There is no discount at this time — the price is $3,499.
Finally, there is a healthy supply of the EOS 5D Mark IV with 24-70mm f/4L IS Kit. Even if you order today ($4399.00 at B&H, Adorama, Amazon) you will likely be shipped a camera Thursday.
So why do B&H, Adorama, and Amazon still show the ship-date as Thursday (9/8)? I pre-ordered within hours of the release, so I hope you’re right, because I’d love to get mine a day early.
We’re told that stores are allowed to ship out tomorrow for arrival on Thursday or Friday.
Knew it was too good to be true.

Any idea when the 16-35 iii is going to be available?
Pre-ordered mine from bestbuy and have a tracking number that says Delivery date of 09/08
How much from Best Buy?
Same price as everywhere else. They just had an awesome interest free financing deal and their protection plan is too good. Got a full refund on 24-70mm mkii after accidentally breaking it
Do you need to have a best buy credit card for the financing?
They’ll start shipping this underwhelming paper weight tomorrow and no one will have to wait, because anyone with a brain already has a Sony A7RII which out-specs this thing by a lot and is still cheaper.
Why does it matter to you if people want to spend their money on this “paper weight”?
Eric Wagner it doesn’t, just making valid points about canon fan boys wasting their money on tech that came out two years ago from every other camera maker
I must have missed THE Sony fan boy announcement of their lineup of professional flashes…..
Kennon Fleisher you’re a Sony fanboy so anything you say is no more valid than what a Canon fanboy says. This said, in many ways I agree it’s an underwhelming camera…but then so is the Sony. It’s a cheap toy with a nice image sensor :)…
Carl Eberhart a cheap toy with a nice image sensor … Doesn’t logic suggest that it will make a nice image, then? And when paired with my Zeiss (not Sony Zeiss) cinema glass, it’s even better. It’s the best image sensor in the DSLR market right now, which is why Nikon uses the same one.
It’s a good B Cam to my DP’s RED Dragon, it cuts in perfectly most of the time.
In my opinion it comes down to preference, when someone looks at your photo, the camera and all its spesc is the last thing they care about. People have been taking amazing photos long before wifi, gps, touchscreen etc. If specs is whats important then your in photography for the wrong reason. There’s no denying people around the world are taking amazing photo’s with every brand on the market. At the end of the day it’s preference and even the best spec’d camera won’t make someone a great photographer.
Underwhelming paperweight? The Mark IV outperforms the Mark III in every way. Better image quality, higher resolution sensor, better dynamic range, faster FPS, much improved AF (including dual pixel AF), USB 3.0, WiFi, GPS, touch screen, etc… I happen to love my Mark III, I love my Canon lenses, my flashes, the look and feel of Canon. So it may be a paperweight to you, but it’s a much improved version of the Mark III in every conceivable way.
I’m pretty psyched about being able to focus on moving subjects and taking more than 20 photos without my battery going dead, but then that’s why I buy Canon instead of Sony. I’ve also got a passion for putting down trolls. Fun times, thanks for playing.
Sony can call me when the put decent auto focus in their cameras and they have a similar lineup of lenses that aren’t 30% more than a canon equivalent. Oh, and the whole flash issue.
I WOULD LOVE this paper weight 🙂
You realize that was a facetious comment Steve?
Too late to get the first batch from B&H and Adorama
