Beat the EOS Body Price Increase — Coming This Sunday

UPDATE: Other sites are reporting a lens price increase as well. This is not true. The current instant rebate for lenses will be renewed, no price changes on lenses are expected.

This is a reminder that we’ve heard from several reliable sources that a price increase on EOS bodies is coming on this Sunday, June 19th (Father’s Day). The current instant rebate will be reduced in value, resulting in an effective price increase. Here are some of the items affected by the price increase, and their current street prices:

These street prices are brand new items from Canon USA authorized dealers with a 1-year Canon USA warranty, and are eligible for the free 13-month CarePAK Plus promotion.

Any idea as to how high the 80D is going to go? I’m tempted to get one before it raises…

There’s currently no instant rebate on the EOS 80D so we do not expect any price changes.

Does the price increase include refurbished cameras?

No, this is a rebate change, so the regular refurbished price is not affected.

The 15%-off refurb sale does end on Saturday as well, though.

Any clues to where the 1DX original price is going? It’s been $4599 for 10 1/2 months. Barely 20% less than a brand new Mark II. At some point I would think Canon would drop MAP to allow shops to clear out their remaining new old stock. I would like to replace my nearly four year-old 1DX (~600k actuations) with a new one, and I keep hoping to get a legitimate U.S. body for right around $4k from an authorized dealer. I can’t imagine the $700 instant rebate on the 1DX is reduced or rescinded without a corresponding reduction to the $5299 MSRP.

No changes coming on Sunday to 1DX pricing. There is very little stock of the 1DX in the system — less than you would think. Canon doesn’t want to decrease the price as that would hurt the perception / sales of the 1DX mk II. Firesales on old bodies just don’t happen…

Difficulty understanding a price increase in a receding market with a sagging economy.
