Any chance we could get a similiar deal on the 24-70mm 2.8 in the near future with the street price coming down. I want to purchase one before an August trip. Thanks!

Please inquire on the 24-70 street price form. There may be other deals already available.

you have to pay tax with canon.com. and no tax from others… noone with the right mind to pay the same price for refurbish over brand new lol

You are incorrect in your assumption. Refurbished means that you deal with Canon directly and that the lens you purchased was individually inspected and should be within specs. New lenses do not receive this attention off the assembly line.

no i think you re incorrect, every product should go through QA before going out. so you said that the new lens re not as good as refurbish lens? lol in this case $1759 + tax for sure it will be more than $1799…. it does not make any sense to me, all of my canon lens and camera are brand new and i never have a single problem. I have 5 canon bodies and about 20 lens

I never said a new is not as good as refurbished. But lenses in a production line do not individually go through QA. They just use a sampling of a determined number. Otherwise, you would not get a “bad” copy of a lens that needs to be sent in for adjustments.

@Dong, you know for a fact new lenses do not go thru QA individually because you work for Canon? What is your source? Given the price difference, I’d go for new lenses too. Canon refurb price is too dang high.

I recently bought a refurbished canon 70-200 2.8 IS II from canon and I had many problems with it so I returned it. CPW helped me get a new lens for about the same price and it is perfect so in my experience new is the better way to go. Also, my lens came with the Canon accidental damage insurance. Nice. Refurbished does not.

Thanks for sharing. Bridget Cervizzi DeRoche, I think yours is f.2 isn’t it? I would prefer a wider aperture

Yes. I wasn’t sure if you were aware of Canon Price Watch though
