eBay Black Friday & Cyber Monday Deals — 6D, 70-200 II Confirmed

About one week ago we published eBay Holiday Canon deal predictions. We’re pleased to see that eBay has now released an “ad scan” of some of the key deals, and it looks like we got some of our predictions exactly spot on.

eBay doesn’t tell us when during the day these deals will be, just that there is a new deal every hour. As you probably don’t want to be watching eBay all day (where as we will be), please set a notification on a specific item you’re interested in, as well as for new blog posts (in the yellow box on our main page). This ensures you get e-mailed as soon as they deals go live, as they do sell out very quickly — generally within hours.

An important thing to note is, these prices are good, but not great compared to our authorized dealer (Canon USA model with Canon USA warranty) street prices. In most cases, the prices are very close to, or sometimes even above our authorized dealer street price. The one upside is you won’t have to do a mail-in rebate to get these prices if you buy an import model from an unauthorized dealer, but the downside is a Canon USA warranty is not guaranteed. We also expect you’d get better customer service from the authorized dealer.

Finally, we were totally correct in our EOS 6D price predictions. The second half of our prophecy, the elusive 5D Mark III prices, are not confirmed. It looks like we’ll have to wait until the actual day-of to see if our predictions come true.

    guys,
I only use my camera gear extensively during the summer, so i would essentially be buying something to really use 8 months from now.
I’l open to holding out for whatever new FF iteration canon has, weather it being a mirror-less or a 6d2 and I would also pay the early adopters price for it.
would you think they announce any new FF bodies in the next 8 months? otherwise i gotta jump on the 6d.

According to http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/5d-mk-iv.htm, 5D4 will be announced on 3/17/2015

I wouldn’t blindly believe what Ken Rockwell says.

Can’t imagine a 6D II would be announced in the next 8 months, although it’s possible. The 5D IV will likely be first, followed by the 1D X II. The 6D came out in November of 2012, so although it’s 2 years old, Canon’s refresh cycle for their full frame and higher end bodies is longer than 2 years. The 5D III came out in March of 2012, so we may see the 5D IV early in 2015, but you’ll pay a large premium for the new body. If you’re willing to do that and you don’t need the camera now, you should wait. However, if you’re like me and you need the camera now and you know that prices likely won’t be this low again for a year, you buy now and you’re happy with your decision.

Bodies lose value quickly, lenses don’t. You can always buy now and sell later if you’re really in need of the newest tech, but depending on what you’re shooting, the 6D or the 5D III might just be perfect for your needs. I’m awaiting my 6D order right now and if a year from now the 6D II shows up with some tech that I feel like I absolutely need, I’ll sell and jump on it. However, I anticipate the 6D meeting my needs really well, so I doubt I’ll upgrade bodies anytime soon.

Remember, prices are as low as they’re going to be for a long time, I’d say better safe than sorry and go for it now if you’re not willing to pay top dollar for your camera.
