Amazon: 1-Day Sale on SanDisk Extreme & Ultra SD Memory Cards

Amazon has a good one-day sale on SanDisk SD memory cards and solid state drives. The sale prices are about 25-30% less than current prices at other authorized SanDisk dealers.

Included in the sale is the very new UHS-I/U3 Extreme SD line, which features transfer speeds up to 60MB/s read and 40MB/s write. At $23.99 for 32GB, that is a good deal for a high-speed card.

I’m debating between the two 32GB options listed.. is $9 worth the extra 10MB/s faster write speed? I mainly do videography and I do shoot RAW photos (not really burst though since my camera only does 3.7fps).

Your camera may not support UHS-I (depending on how old it is). I can’t seem to find any info on this, more research is needed. 🙂

Oh wow I didn’t even think about compatibility with UHS cards, suppose I’ll have to do some research. Thanks!

I would go with the Extreme 32 GB SD Card. Read speed is not as important as write speed on a dSLR.

      Extreme
      Read: 60 MB/s
      Write: 40 MB/s

      Ultra
      Read: 30 MB/s
      Write: 10 MB/s (Class 10 min speed)

There is a good compatibility chart from Photo Plus magazine:

I have one of their more recent guides that shows the Canon 70D and 700D (T5i) UHS-1 compliant,

    A few things:
First, these are not the fastest cards Sandisk makes. These aren’t even close to the fastest cards in the industry, considering their 60/40 (MB/s Read/Write) speeds. Sandisk’s fastest cards (Extreme Pro) are 280/250 (previous generation was 95/90 I think), and even their second line (Extreme Plus) is 80/60. The one advertised is their third line (Extreme) at 60/40, as I previously mentioned.
Second, the UHS speed class certification comprises a minimum cut-off that will work for certain functions, such as 4K. All of the Extreme cards perform at or better than UHS class 3 certification (30 MB/s write speed or more) so as they manufacture these cards, they will put U3 (means equal or better than UHS class 3 speed) label instead of U1. That certification doesn’t have any direct relation to the speeds. The actual data transfer speeds should still be considered primary factors.
Third, the new mode CPW mentions is actually UHS II (not 3 or III). This involves a second set of pins that only certain newer devices are able to take advantage of. The old devices will still be able to use these cards, but at traditional speeds. At this point, only the newer 280/250 Extreme Pro cards have this capability (among all Sandisk products), and they are NOT included in this particular sale. These are indicated by a II below the SDHC/SDXC mark and NOT by a 3 inside a U (which means speed class certification).

Thanks for the clarification. I’ve adjusted the post and namings accordingly.

Yes, the new UHS-II “Extreme Pro” cards are quite expensive, $115 for 32 GB.
