Warning: eBay Seller “deals-all-year” Formerly Known as Ryther Camera

Many other sites are featuring a deal from a relatively new eBay merchant deals-all-year, their eBay daily deal is a EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for $639.99. We have been asked many times today, are they reputable? Who are they?

A quick check of their eBay ID history (eBay account required) shows they were “rythercamera” and recently renamed themselves. Read more about Ryther here, here, or here.

Although this new eBay store has good feedback thus far (perhaps they are turning over a new leaf?), we think it’s still too early and we cannot recommend this store at this time.

UPDATE (August 2016): It has been two years since deals-all-year has appeared on eBay and we have re-reviewed their reputation. Based on the strong positive feedback (99.9%) from the last two years, we have reversed our decision and now choose to list this store with the other reputable merchants on our site. We always recommend making grey market purchases through a platform such as eBay, where you can leverage both eBay and PayPal protection on your purchases.

If you purchase something through a link on our site, we may get a small share of the sale (at no cost to you). Please read our disclosure for more info.

Interesting. Ryther was notorious with bait and switch deals. Hopefully they move in a new direction

Ryther had a horrible reputation. As for now, still too early to say. There are bad reviews as recently as 3-4 months ago. I wouldn’t buy from this store anytime soon, but that’s just my personal opinion.

I purchased a lumix GH3 and they also gave me a good deal on some SD cards, very courteous and accommodating… I guess i was one of the lucky ones!

They are the WORST~buyer beware! If you can not find what you need~somewhere else~ these guys still are not worth the hassle! These people will scam you with every breathe you take and have no qualms about lying to you the whole time they deal with you~what a total rip-off and hey~5 grand is a lot to lose~think, before you deal with them. Heads up.This has been the worst experience I’ve had with any sales deal ever and it’s still not resolved. They also do a “bundle” and won’t “itemize” a receipt~for insurance purposes, that’s needed, as well as, they change what they send to you to whatever they please, and knock off several items, as well. They also guarantee warranty comes with equipment but when it arrives they say ” no worries, we’ve got you covered” Say what?

Well, it’s 2 months later and I’m finally done dealing with this Clown! Not because the serious issues of dropping 5 grand with him are resolved, moreso, because there is a better way to resolve a “seller” that refuses to deliver once you have paid for merchandise. Perhaps, his days are numbered in the business of ripping people off, legal ramifications are a tough way to lose a business~but sometimes the only way to stop a person from literally robbing people over and over and getting away with it. If you need Camera Equipment Go ANYWHERE else, avoid this guy at all cost.

I have ordered two cameras in separate instances from Deals All Year (or ryther camera I suppose) and I have had a pleasant buying experience each time. (Nikon D810 & a 5D Mark III I used for a wedding). This is actually my current go-to store for lenses and certain accessories. I feel secure purchasing through eBay (buyer protection) and even more secure that they have a top rated seller rating which is hard to get on ebay these days with all the stipulations. (I have a store myself). If you purchase from these guys purchase from ebay I’m sure you won’t have any issues!

I’d like to note that the IP address that “John R.” used to post the above review of Deals-All-Year matches the IP address that “Kevin of Deals-All-Year” is using to post official store replies.

(Vendors, please do not post fake comments masquerading as customers, I will call you out when I find out…)

I felt it very pertinent to follow up on my last comment. I was premature in stating I was “finished” in dealing with this clown….It has been a nightmare! He did send me a replacement lens, however, it did not work properly…I had to deal with him, once again, with an “In Store Warranty” to ‘replace’ that lens. It was, indeed replaced with a lens that also does not perform at all~! These are respectively First a Sigma 150mm-500mm and then A Tamron 150mm-600mm both faulty. Before He would return the money on the Tamron, as he wouldn’t even opt to replace the Tamron, He suddenly found THIS BLOG, and demanded I amend my statement that he refunded me for the lens, I return the Lens, and THEN and only THEN~ he would Refund the amount of $950.00 which is undervalued for the actual replacement value, besides, what was his motivation, after his demands were met to refund? He also stated he would resell the Tamron lens. Wow! I cut my losses and walked away after contacting the Better Business Bureau of New Jersey and they told me~ and this is Public Record [ this particular business] Ryther/Deals All Year has an “F” Rating!!!!! Folks, if you ever got a report card~ you are aware that’s the worst rating anyone can get! Make a call and find out for yourself. Just a Head’s Up~ he can’t do everyone wrong….he wouldn’t make it….but he does do very wrongful deals…..with some.

In my 15 year selling experience, I never talked to a customer where I couldn’t satisfy them. Just imagine having over 60 emails from one customer. And every one is like reading a whole book. There is always two sides to the story. This order started off where the customer was very confused, and she had a budget on what to spend. I tried my best to give her the best price, and get her a lens to use to take her outside shot. Unfortunately, she couldn’t afford a brand new lens, so I offered her a Sigma 150-500mm that was a demo in our store. This was $500 off the retail price. I told her it was like brand new, and I sold it to her for $850, four months ago. From day one this issue with this order, tripod was not stable enough, so I gave her a better tripod that cost $200 more for the store, no extra charge for her. The lens was not focusing the right way, so I told her to return it. It took her close to two months to return it. The condition she returned the lens is not even worth $50, if we’re lucky, after we fix it. Any sensible company wouldn’t even accept this. I decide to send her out a brand new grip, which she returned where she had an issue with the remote. We also sent a brand new Tamron lens in replacement of the $850 Sigma lens, which is valued close to $950. I covered shipping both ways for both lens, the shipping alone costs $120 express. After I sent it to her, I received another book saying I ripped her off starting the whole process again claiming we scammed her, etc. I gave her an option that I do not want to exchange the lens any more, I will not give her $950 I will give her $1050 instead of the $950 and she goes buy a different lens locally to see if it’s the lens that’s faulty.
I think the reason why she thinks these lenses were defective is that she bought a 5-6.3 lens, which is not so fast when focusing. She’s outside shooting animals, birds, wildlife, which requires a faster shooting at a lower aperture. If I remember she owns a fixed Nikon lens, a 400mm and she’s comparing the lenses we shipped her to that.

I might have made $300 on the original sale, however, after all said and done, with the sigma lens, I lost over $1,000 shipping costs, tripod exchange, etc they all add up.

After I decided to give her the $1050 refund, which I have email confirming that we would do this refund, even after 4 months. I was doing research about our company and I realized she did this comment, which I was shocked after all this. I told her that she needs to edit those reviews before I give this $1050 and she said she’s not going to edit the review. I don’t think any company would do a refund after so long. What is the purpose of giving her a refund, after she’s bashing our company, calling us names, and after we did so much for her, she’s still not happy? There will always be something else.
I realized no matter what I do, this customer will never be happy.

This is for the public, if anybody had an issue that we never resolved with them, we would like to hear from you. I am sure that there’s 0.
We are a highly rated company on eBay now, with near perfect feedback, which is near impossible to get now a days with eBay’s strict rules.

This is not a court of law……but calling me out and no one else on this blog seems rather peculiar and a bit like Discrimination. If you would like for it to come to that, however, for the loss of $5000.00 to a person with a rating of an “F” or an EPIC FAIL with the Better Business Bureau of ~the State of New Jersey~ It would be wise to let this go as I asked you to. I took the greater loss, If you lost that kind of smack ~ you really are not a good business person no matter how you look at it hahaha! In addition, what you have stated are simply not all facts, but clearly convenient for you. I am a “happy” person. I just made a serious mistake doing a transaction with a very untrustworthy company.(and not thru EBAY) ~ That Company’s Reputation obviously speaks for itself, in that, if it followed it’s own policies, the refund would have been made~ it wasn’t. Period. End of story. What I won’t tolerate is more untruths about how this was handled…..let it go. My health will also take…..no more. People with Disabilities don’t need harassment on top of everything they deal with otherwise.

Oh and by the way, If I could have gotten ANY of these items “LOCALLY”, clearly, I NEVER would have has this horrible experience, loss, and subsequent difficulties with my health.

I am not going to do any more posts here.
Kimberly, I remember one last voice mail you left me, saying you went for a long drive saying you quit your photography. I talked to you numerous amounts of times; you have sent me some of your work. Your pictures that you take are very good. You do professional work. We understand you had issues with your order, however we don’t want to be the ones to contribute to your decision to stop doing photography; something you’re great at. So here is our final offer, we need to move forward over this. The Sigma lens on the original order was valued at $850, we exchanged it for a Tamron valued at $950. I am now going to offer $1,150 back for the Tamron that’s not focusing right. I’m sure you used it, and it’s not going to be in new condition. I’m not going to mention how much more this is going to add to my loss. The reason why I’m doing this is to help put the extra money towards a different lens, with a lower aperture compared to the Tamron lens, like the Nikon 400mm lens you have.

If you decide you want to do this, just write a response, and we will send you a return label to return the lens. Once we receive the lens back, we will mail you a check for $1,150

Kevin~publishing private information is far beyond the limit! You have finally crossed a line that is so unacceptable and questionably unethical, I suppose because you were clearly told to refrain from contacting me; not to mention, once again, given inaccurate information to make yourself look good. I warned you to Let~this~GO! Now, you want to offer, with bad information, what? A personal check? Give me a Break! The Lens has been tested~ It does not work properly! Did it ever cross your mind that maybe, just maybe YOU got a bad lense yourself???? ~~~~~I have a beating migraine headache and am so angry right now that you EVEN had the nerve to post such bull. This ends on this blog now! But you, just brought on more than you ever wanted by contacting me…..again…..and as I stated…..and emailed to you CLEARLY~It is Harrassment. Plain and simple. As for your “Reputation”~it still speaks for itself. This silly attempt is just posturing. Oh, and the “monopod” ~never received, but you already know that. I’ve got a few calls to make~firstly a migraine to deal with~thanks!

Deals All Year: Great price, Great Service, Great retail store!

I’m a professional photojournalist for a newspaper in New Jersey and I needed a Nikkor 24-70mm for my job. After shopping around for a few days online, I found that deals-all-year had the best price (new) of any legitimate company on Ebay, and I decided to trust them based on their 99% positive feedback and the amount of merchandise they’ve sold.

I purchased the lens from them and decided to pick it up at their New Jersey location the very next day (this seemed faster and safer than shipping an expensive item to my apartment building). They replied to my email promptly with their street address. I assumed it would be a warehouse, but when I arrived, I walked in to their full retail store. They gave me the brand new Nikkor 24-70mm and it’s in absolutely perfect condition. I was impressed by their quality and low prices, so I decided to buy a pro tripod and a monopod right there in their store. I’m very happy with their service and with my purchases and I plan to purchase more equipment from deals-all-year in the future.

Kevin, You set a Deadline(of one day) for me to get back to you…. even though you have a clear policy of ,no hassle, money back guarantee (and promised to do so with a return shipping label that never arrived , as well); however, I have been very ill and couldn’t inquire about a refund thru the Credit Card Company, to insure a proper credit until WE could both be here and call them. Just moments ago, we both spoke to a rep at the company and did, in fact, explain this whole mess. We are disputing the transaction at this time. It is unfortunate that you are difficult to communicate with, abrasive, and have a very difficult time following your own policies. We will only be dealing with this matter through the credit card company from this point forward. I am informing you through this blog as that is what you asked of me. As I see it, there is nothing left to discuss here, the dispute will decide the outcome.
