Canon is really screwing their vendors. They force them to sell at MAP then undercut them on refurbished products like crazy.

I don’t think so. As a consumer, you can purchase an item new, or refurbished. They shouldn’t be priced the same as they’re not. In some cases, they’re essentially the same (which is why I’m a big fan of Canon’s refurbs) but in some cases they’re not. There’s also a difference in perception about the product as well. Not for everyone, but for some. For the average person (who doesn’t know about CPW’s street price), you can pay about $875-880 (if approximately 7% sales tax) for a refurb 70D or $999 for a new one. We’re talking a 12% discount. For many, that’s not worth it. For many others, it is. Either way, Canon’s dealers are NOT getting screwed by a 12% difference in total price for what is often essentially an “open box” item.

When it comes directly from the manufacturer with an identical warranty, they pretty much are the same thing. Especially because every single one gets individually checked. Even new ones don’t get individually inspected before they go out.

I got a refurb 60d and I have a refurb 6d on the way. There is zero reason to buy a new 6d for 1699 (or even 1539
Cpw street price) if I can buy a refurb for less than $1400 delivered with tax.

I get identical warranties and you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between the two.

Again, I buy from Canon refurb all the time. I don’t see them as inferior, but some do, thus, a lower demand and a lower price.

$999 for a new 70d or $815 plus tax on a refurb one with the same warranty

      Don’t forget, or $939 through CPW’s street price. 🙂
