eBay Frenzy: EOS 6D + 24-105mm for $1899 at BestStopDeals eBay

NEW UPDATE: Some of our readers have received this — they are reporting it’s brand new with Canon USA warranty cards in the box! Also, many people are calling today and they are now telling people it’s USA warranty card. (But don’t take our word for it; call and ask yourself: 1-877-254-6155.)

UPDATE: We have now had two reports of our readers receiving a brand new 6D+24-105mm but with no warranty card in the box.

BestStopDeals via eBay has the Canon EOS 6D with 24-105 Kit for $1899.99. This is part of the on-going eBay Deal Frenzy.

BestStopDeals is not an authorized dealer, but a quick call confirms that they are selling US model with Canon US warranty cards in this deal. (Call to confirm: 1-877-254-6155.) Free shipping is included, and they only charge sales tax to New Jersey.

They have 98.6% positive feedback, which is not as good as the top unauthorized dealers, but is still overwhelmingly positive. Compare with $2299 at authorized dealers.

It’s the same price as the BuyDig “Refurbished” deal but without the free Lightroom 5.

I’d encourage people purchasing this to contact the store so you can have them on record saying to you it’s US model.

Been watching this one for a while. Finally purchased! Thanks for the heads up!

I have been wanting the 6D for a while and finally took the plunge. FedEx says it is out for delivery so I should receive it today (I only live about 20 miles from the seller, so I wouldn’t expect most people to get theirs that quickly! But I had to pay tax on the transaction…. Ugh)

I wish I would have called first to confirm that I would be receiving the USA model. I will check back to let you know what I actually got! Thanks so much for the heads up.

Seems like they have a lot of negative reviews just recently of items being sold as “new” which clearly are not upon arrival. I was very close to buying but this has me doubting now. Great price though and the combo I want.

Yes, they are newer and don’t have as good of a reputation built up as the other unauthorized dealers. Your caution may be warranted.

What I’d suggest doing is going through the negative feedback and reading those that apply to Canon items only. It seems like the biggest complaint for Canon items is the slow shipping.

The reason why I suggest filtering the feedback in this way is: as mentioned in my unauthorized dealer article, they source their product from different authorized dealers; sometimes the unauthorized dealers purchase something that is claimed to be new but unknowingly was a customer return or something. Now it’s inexcusable to pass this on to the end customer (they really should QA it) but it can be difficult to detect if it was pristinely repacked and is only obvious once you look at the settings of the camera, etc.

What you want to see is that the Canon source is historically clean (with no reports of used products). Looks to be so, most of the “used” complaints are with Apple products or e-Readers.

They have been ignoring my inquiries about warranties. so I guess they are lying about warranty, there is none.

The best way to get this answered is to call. 1-877-254-6155.

Press 1. Give them the eBay item number 290858311072 and ask them straight up if it’s US model or grey market, and if it has a US warranty card. When I did so yesterday I got an answer of US Model and Yes.

The problem with that is with no written proof, you won’t win ebay or paypal case if needed. I did had one 6D serviced by Canon within 2 months after purchase, man, that was a frustrating experience.

          May 20, 2014 at 10:30 am EDT

True, I can see why you may want to get it in writing as well.

However, if they tell you one thing on the phone and then ship you something else … come and tell me and I’ll make sure everyone hears about it.

What was frustrating about the previous warranty service experience?

I called them before the package arrived. I asked specifically about it being a US model and the guy told me that it had an International warranty. To me, that means it isn’t a US model I’m not willing to take the chance that I won’t be able to get the body serviced if something went wrong. . I asked him how I could return it and he said that I should refuse the package and it would be a $20 charge.

I was suspicious when I looked on the eBay listing again and took the UPC code down. I looked up the UPC code as everything was European.

I would stay away from this “deal”. I’m so disappointed, but happy I took care if it before it became a return nightmare.

I called again today, and this time I’m being told it has an “International Warranty Card” but “Canon USA will service it.”

That description doesn’t strike confidence in me as a US model. Also, sounds like this seller doesn’t know what he’s talking about.

Needless to say this will likely be the last time we’re posting one of their sales.

      1. May 20, 2014 at 11:56 am EDT

I bought it. What is my risk I decide to keep it?

        1. CanonPriceWatch
          May 20, 2014 at 12:40 pm EDT

The only difference should be the first year warranty.

Should this be an import, we’ve heard some reports that Canon still services import models, but again you’re taking more risk that you’ll have to pay for your a first-year warranty repair. Beyond the first year, you can still get service if you pay, just like everyone else 🙂

I bought one yesterday, but thinking of returning now… Can we get firmware upgrades for non- us models

    1. CanonPriceWatch
      May 20, 2014 at 11:38 am EDT

Yes. The camera is identical, the only question is the warranty.

      1. Chris Burger
        May 20, 2014 at 11:54 am EDT

I’m confused. I thought you wouldn’t be able to get the camera serviced by Canon in the US at all. I’m probably willing to take the chance that it will be OK for one year. A $400 price difference may be worth the gamble. I was concerned if something happened after the warranty had expired it wouldn’t be able to be serviced here in the US.

Also, would the battery and charger work here in the US?

        1. CanonPriceWatch
          May 20, 2014 at 12:18 pm EDT

Canon USA isn’t as strict as Nikon. Where as Nikon refuses to service grey market bodies, Canon will do so as long as you pay. If you’re in the first year, we’ve even heard reports that occasionally there’s no charge.

So yes, your only risk is the first year.

I don’t have a comment on whether or not the battery or charger will be the US model — it’d be a massive lie on the stores part if it wasn’t.

  9. May 20, 2014 at 11:38 am EDT

Has anyone here ordered from this seller? I see the majority of his positive feedback is from the sale of iPhone headphones. Not from cameras. I’m reading neutral and negative reviews and it seems he sends out grey market or refurbed items but lists as new. Some people received lenses or bodies without warranty cards. Hopefully this isn’t the case as I’ve put in an order yesterday… I’ll keep you posted.. Idk how his feedback is 98.6% as most of the neutral reviews seemed pretty negative to me.

Has anyone ever received a refund after refusing to accept the package from this seller? I just learned I lose ebay buyer protection if I refuse the package. Would it be better to accept the package and file a claim with ebay stating item not as described and return it with insurance and signature required?

Yes. Rejecting delivery is dangerous for that exact reason.

The something is something to help people who purchased based on our info yesterday that this was US warranty. It won’t apply to a purchase today, so please purchase if you are okay with uncertainty that it MIGHT be import version.

I just got email from them ”
This is a Canon US model and comes with a one year international warranty through Canon. ”

I don’t know what does that mean by international warranty. Will Canon USA take it if there is anything?

There seems to be something called “international warranty”. here is a link from canon site http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/modelSupportLinkDetail.action?componentCid=0901e0248010edb0&staticFileURL=/MiscPage/Warranty_EOSCam_MiscPage.htm

I am VERY happy to report that I received the 6D and 24-105 and they both look brandy-new and the warranty cards for both lens and camera appear to be US/Canada. The Charger is a standard, North American, 2-prong plug. (Charging my battery right now so I can shoot some pics!

It is designated as 6D(WG) which apparently indicates it has WiFi and GPS. There are apparently models that are designated as 6D(N) which do not have wifi or GPS and would definitely not be for US. I don’t know if the WG absolutely confirms US, but I hope so!

Great. Hopefully all the other orders will show up this way — I think you ordered early, it would be disappointing if the reason they started saying “International Warranty Card” instead of “USA warranty card” was they ran out of the US models.

Hopefully my foray into providing warranties is not necessary, but just in case, that is there too. 🙂

It is BEYOND awesome that you even offered to warranty a product that you didn’t even make!!! You really shouldn’t have done that. People know it is buyer beware on internet deals. (I’m not just saying that because I got a US copy. I was prepared to deal with the consequences of my decision to purchase from a non-authorized source on ebay)

Chris how long did it take to get yours? I ordered mine Wed night and I have been anxiously looking at the eBay activity and it hasn’t been shipped yet. I am in PA so close to NJ I thought maybe I would have seen it shipped already. I am so nervous that something is going to go wrong with this deal as I have already been shafted by another eBay seller with a “awesome” 6d deal. :/

Excellent news. How early did you order? I would like to hear that someone who ordered late is also getting a Canon USA warranty card.

    May 21, 2014 at 8:18 pm EDT

it’s good to know that Star and Chris are satisfied. I think I may go for it. When I talked to someone at the number provided by CPW he assured me that they were US camera models, not grey market, international or refurbs. He also said that it was a US warranty. At that time he said there were a couple hundred left.
