Price Mistake: Manfrotto 502HD Pro Video Head for $85 AR at Amazon

This appears to be a price-mistake; Amazon is double-dipping on the Manfrotto 502HD Pro Video Head with Flat Base for $85.89 after a $50 mail-in rebate.

The regular price for this head is $185.89; there’s currently a $50 mail-in rebate (Amazon is an authorized dealer), but it looks like Amazon is mistakenly applying it as an instant-rebate. You should be eligible for the rebate after the Amazon $135 price, for a net price of $85. This is a steal at less than half price!

Note: Amazon is currently out-of-stock but they honor back-orders. They currently state a wait of 2-4 weeks, but knowing Amazon it is typically less than what they advertise.

[UPDATE: Amazon jacked the price up $50 to $185. I think this is them acknowledging it was a price mistake. 🙂 They seem to still be honoring any orders.]

What a great find! I’m in need of a decent video head. Thanks for the tip!

  2. April 14, 2014 at 7:20 am EDT

    Nope 7:30AM, no rebate now?

    1. April 14, 2014 at 7:26 am EDT

I still see a price of $135 at Amazon, and then you are eligible for a $50 MIR.

    2. April 14, 2014 at 7:27 am EDT

MIR is where? How do I find the rebate? I’ve gotten to the point of charging my card and no info on rebate…

    3. April 14, 2014 at 7:28 am EDT

You can check out our blog post for the link to the mail-in rebate form.

      Thanks!!

Here’s a link for your convenience. You’ll note the rebate terms don’t restrict Amazon, and Amazon is an authorized dealer.

    Gone

    1. April 14, 2014 at 8:17 am EDT

If you read the post, you’ll notice it’s been out of stock for quite some time now but Amazon honors back-orders at this price.

I mean the pricing is gone

    1. April 14, 2014 at 8:47 am EDT

No, the pricing is still there if you buy from Amazon directly — the link in our post takes you to one sold by Amazon; the one you have below is by 3rd party.

    2. April 14, 2014 at 8:48 am EDT

It’s probably because you’re using the mobile version of Amazon’s site.

Another sign this is likely a pricing mistake: every other Manfrotto item on rebate at Amazon isn’t discounted like this one.

Yeah you have to manually choose Amazon.com since it’s backordered. It will default to some other 3rd party when you add to cart.

Our link will default to sold by Amazon when used on non-mobile — for some reason mobile doesn’t quite work the same way.

Just placed the order… Couldn’t pass up on the price.

Called Amazon to verify rebate will work. They claimed it was an instant rebate, and that the mail in rebate will most likely not work as it is a separate promotion as outlined in the mail in rebate.

It is still a decent price at $135, but I wouldn’t count on the rebate..

      April 14, 2014 at 3:25 pm EDT

Their website doesn’t say anything about it being an instant rebate price; just that their price is set to $135. I don’t think your invoice will say anything about an instant rebate.

I’d still try to put the rebate through. The form doesn’t say anything about the rebate not being valid at Amazon (even though it explicitly mentions Best Buy) so there’s a good chance it will work.

even at $135, it’s still a pretty good deal.

So I called Manfrotto’s rebate hotline to ask them regarding rebate eligibility on this purchase.

The answer I got was, as long as the store is an authorized dealer (buying from Amazon directly is), and as long as the receipt doesn’t mention any specific Manfrotto-funded promotions or discounts (which, typical of Amazon, I think the receipt won’t, just the net selling price), then we are eligible for the mail-in rebate, regardless of selling price.

That being said I think there’s always a chance of MIRs going wrong, you have been warned. 🙂

You can confirm yourself via their toll-free: (855) 806-3233.

I ordered on the 14th and mine arrived today. No mention of any special deal on the invoice. I hope it goes through.

Yes, it looks like they are working their way through the people who ordered on the 14th, I think the 15th soon as well.

A sure sign this was a price mistake: Amazon jacked the price up $50 to $185. 🙂

They look to be honoring orders though — let me know if they cancel yours.

I got mine today, but, they put a white sticker over the UPC label. I was able to get most of that white sticker off. Time to mail in the rebate and see if I get $50. 🙂

Yes, can anyone please confirm receiving the rebate, or at least receiving a tracking number?

Their rebate processing seems to be horrible compared to Canon’s.

Just wanted to give a heads up that I received the rebate confirmation via e-mail today. Not sure if it’s a coincidence or if they are watching. Either way I’m happy that it went through! This head is great. Traveled with it to a few different states and it survived being in a checked bag so it’s def heavy duty. Works great with a C100.

They say 10 weeks on their site……just another week to go. Too bad that a company with a good product line has a lousy rebate center. You don’t want to mess with your corporate’s reputation….
