I’d love to buy at this price but there are too many negative comments and I can’t risk that much money with a questionable seller. Wish you’d get a deal like this from a reputable dealer.

One thing I always remind people of is with tens of thousands of sales you always have some negative feedback — their positive feedback rate is 99.5% which means you have a 1 in 200 chance of running into an issue.

That being said, you are taking a risk over authorized dealers; but we’ve been posting deals by 6ave for a while now and haven’t heard much in terms of negative feedback from our readers.

I bought one from them in the last deal. Not USA model but was brand new and works perfect. Came in a kit box. Received camera in two days after payment. Overall quite satisfied.

      Thanks for the info.

It’s the international model but it is in English.

  5. April 24, 2014 at 12:15 pm EDT

This is a grey market item. It does not say on the ad but I confirmed it by calling.

It says at the bottom of the page:
Note: This camera may be an imported model. It is completely identical to the USA model and is produced by the same factories. This product comes set in English as a standard, with USA connections, and English manuals. Imported models do not carry a USA manufacturer warranty card. Your purchase is covered by a 6ave store warranty which covers you for 1 Year. Please view below in our terms and conditions for details.

This means it is not unauthorized seller but grey market/import version. Right?
But CPW you make us little confused 🙁 If I would trust you I was gonna think about I will have USA warranty but unfortunately no.

Hi Adam, they are an unauthorized dealer, and they can sell either USA models or import models. I just called and I too confirmed that this sale is import models. I’ve updated the post.

We think in either case Canon USA will still provide warranty service. We have never been told by a reader that a import model was rejected from Canon USA for warranty service, but agree that Canon can change their policy at any time.

The one reader who bought an import model from 6ave who needed warranty service called 6ave, and they told him to send the body to Canon. Canon serviced it without question.

Thank you. Sorry I didn’t see the update before I write my comment. That is great that Canon USA will still provide warranty service. Thank you.
Actually I don’t need a 5D M3 but I want a 6D. This deal is very good, I cannot decide whether to buy this or wait for 6D. Still no deals after MAP. Do you have any clue about 6D what will happen?

          April 24, 2014 at 12:33 pm EDT

I think there will be 6D deals matching the most recent pre-MAP deals, later today 🙂

  7. April 24, 2014 at 12:25 pm EDT

I confirmed; this is import version and not USA model. I’ve updated the post. Based on community experience I think Canon USA will still provide warranty repair service, but I agree it is more risk than buying a US model from an unauthorized dealer.

in light of MAP, this really is a way to save loads of money. Buying grey market is cheaper than buying used at times lol

Confusing shipping. It says “Free Shipping,” “Free Shipping only applies to the lower 48 states.” and “Shipping:$49.95 Standard Shipping.” Too bad they won’t ship to the rest of the US.

  10. April 24, 2014 at 1:24 pm EDT

Still a great deal and 6AVE are solid traders on eBay!

  11. April 24, 2014 at 1:55 pm EDT

I worked for 6th ave many years ago. Would not touch it unless they have changed their ways.

    1. April 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm EDT

Interesting — they have been pretty reliable the last few sales over the last 6 months. How long ago did you work for them?

  12. April 24, 2014 at 2:02 pm EDT

LOL like I said many years ago! 1992 give or take a year, hopefully they changed their ways.

  13. April 24, 2014 at 2:42 pm EDT

I went ahead and bought one this morning! Im a little nervous to buy an imported version but it was almost $1000 cheaper. Ill post again here when I receive it and let everyone know how it goes!

Dear CPW, please tell us more about the 6D deal, you mentioned above… !!! Can’t awaid.. Please be nice and make the deal happen for us. Thanks.

  15. April 24, 2014 at 4:16 pm EDT

I’ll skip this… I’d rather pay retail and get the US model

  16. April 24, 2014 at 5:19 pm EDT

A week ago I bought my Nikon D5200 from 6ave ebay ( $557 including kit lens). I’m totally happy with my purchase. They are so reliable seller no doubt. Planning to buy D7100 from them in future.

  17. April 24, 2014 at 5:26 pm EDT

6 ave used to sell refurb marked as new. I have bought small ticket items from them no problem, but nothing big

  18. April 24, 2014 at 6:28 pm EDT

I bought retail for 3300. Saving $1000 is nice but I like the piece of mind knowing I’m backed by canon.

  21. April 24, 2014 at 9:24 pm EDT

The non US versions do not have the magnesium case, it’s plastic and the language is in Japanese.
Be careful what you buy !

    1. April 25, 2014 at 12:04 am EDT

Reference? I’ve heard there is no difference.

    2. April 25, 2014 at 8:12 am EDT

I was looking into a 7D at AJRichie.com and the price was too good so I called and it was for the non US version and the told me the difference as I stated before The US model was 400 more

    3. April 25, 2014 at 8:15 am EDT

AJRichie is a scam / bait & switch shop. There is no difference between US model and import model. They all are made in the same factory in Japan.

Just received mine. Apparently, the box has been opened before and the kit lens has been removed. The power plug is the two round pin Japanese version which I am sure many american home cannot use without an adaptor.

Any way to check if the camera is new or with any problem? I am charging the battery now.

      April 29, 2014 at 3:42 pm EDT

Just found a very short US version power cord inside the box

Thanks for the update. Split kits is a regular occurence from unauthorized dealers or other deals.

You can check your shutter count with EOSCount. It should be new.

          April 29, 2014 at 7:59 pm EDT

          Hi CPW,
I just checked the shutter count. It is 33 counts, which was taken by me. Somehow the photo info showing the photo number is 101-0562. Not sure what it means though.

The firmware is 1.2.1. As I checked this is from April 2013. So, feels like the camera is 1 year old. This is consistent with the battery’s manufacture date.

          Anything else I should check?

          April 29, 2014 at 8:11 pm EDT

If your memory card wasn’t empty when you took your first photo, then the numbering would continue from the last photo on the card.

The shutter count doesn’t lie though, so it should be a new body. You can also check the serial number to make sure there’s no pinprick which indicates a refurbished camera.

    CPW,
May I ask how to check the ‘pinprick’ in serial number? Any website I should go? Thanks!
