What’s the difference between a reburbished body or new? Warranty?

      Same 1-year Canon USA warranty.

Here’s what Canon says about refurb products:

“Products are returned to Canon for a variety of reasons, including overstock balancing, miscellaneous returns from retailers, suspected mis-operation, and minor damage to the box.

“Products that are refurbished must pass a comprehensive quality assurance inspection before final packaging and shipment. Rigorous function and cosmetic inspections are performed by trained Canon technicians so that each refurbished product meets operational specifications and strict cosmetic standards that we have established.”

It also only comes in a white box.

Thanks! I should have bought it when it was available. Now it’s all gone. πŸ™ I will wait for the next sale.

I bought a 60D during a refurb body sale in March. It looked brand new and only had 14 shutter actuations. Basically a new camera with the same 1yr warranty, but for less money and in a plain box. Most of my lenses are refurbished, and all have looked new and been trouble-free.

Not a bad price for the 6D.

I know this post isn’t addressing the new 6D, but I’ve just seen that the price has dropped as much as $200 on the 6D and 70D bodies and kits. Does this mean the MAP has dropped, is this a Canon-sanctioned sale or are retailers beginning to see some leeway from Canon? I figured we’d see the MSRP for quite some time, but I’m encouraged by the movement so early after the MAP was enforced. Should I be encouraged, or am I giving myself false hope that the prices will drop further any time soon?

Also, Canon’s online store as well as CPW say that the 6D refurbished body is in stock but I’ve been unable to add it to my cart or view other items in my cart as of this morning (04/27/2014.) Is it really sold out or is Canon simply having website issues?

Hi Joe, an instant rebate of $200 started on the 6D last night. MAP is still in effect, this is a “sanctioned” sale. But stay tuned, we are announcing something interesting later…

Canon’s cart is experiencing some issues. Try starting in a new browser, possibly after clearing cookies.

Thanks for the reply! I probably could have benefited from some more thorough reading before posting. I’m excited to see the movement on prices. Looking foreword to the interesting announcement! Love the site, thanks so much for what you do.

“we are announcing something interesting later…” Has this to do with better price deals on the 6D?

Look at our latest blog post. 6D new authorized for $1600.

  13. April 28, 2014 at 2:13 am EDT

Any idea how long this deal will exist?

May 12th, or while quantities last. About 200 of the 6Ds have now sold, they still have over 500 though.

CPW, May I know what’s the lowest price so far for a refurb and for a new Canon 6D? I’m still seeing the Canon 6D in stock since last saturday. Is the price of $1291 not a very good deal for 6D body?

      April 29, 2014 at 10:33 am EDT

They started with 725 refurbs and now are down to 455. 270 6Ds sold in 2 days is nothing to sneeze at … they will probably run out by the end of the week.

The lowest price ever for the refurbished 6D was at the Canon Direct store for $1215 last year during Holiday 2013. That was a 20% off sale.

This is still a pretty good deal at only $75 more than that.

The lowest price for the 6D was during Holiday 2013 as well and was $1499 — there were a few one-day sales that went a bit lower (even $1415, which was ridiculous) but very few people actually got orders in at that price.

maybe its a dumb question, but are refurbished cameras really safe/reliable to buy?what about warranty? i mean, i dont live in US so im not sure if the warranty will actually work in my country if something happen to the camera. cheers

    1. April 29, 2014 at 7:36 pm EDT

Canon refurbished bodies are safe — they come with a full one-year Canon warranty in the US. Unfortunately if you’re not in the US you may not get the warranty — I don’t think the Canon store ships out of the US either.

    2. April 30, 2014 at 10:32 am EDT

Thanks a lot for your answer, i really appreciate it.
Unfortunately they dont ship out of the US, but i was thinking to get one over there.
      Thank you!
