We have heard that the Canon Direct Store is having a sale later tonight on refurbished bodies, this time including the 5D Mark III and 6D. This is rare, as they are normally excluded.
- The EOS 5D Mark III will be $2447.28 (after 10% off)
- The EOS 6D will be $1291.32 (after 15% off)
As of time of posting, only 38 refurbished 5D Mark IIIs are in-stock, and we expect these to go fast when the sale begins at midnight ET tonight. We are also told there is a free shipping code, we’ll post it when we find it.
We’ll also see the usual 20% off the rest of their line-up, including:
- The EOS 60D will be $460.79
- The EOS 60D with 18-135mm will be $613.89
- The EOS Rebel SL1 will be $383.99
Recall, refurbished bodies now come with a full 1-year Canon warranty. However, the Canon Direct Store does charge sales tax to almost all states.
Any word on if the refurbished 70D will be on sale as well? I just called to order one through the Loyalty Program and was told it isn’t eligible yet…boo!
It doesn’t look like the 70D is on sale. The 6D and 5D3 sales are a greater discount than the current CLP discount.
When I called about the clp on the 5d3 they told me 10%
Okay, you’re probably right. I thought it had been less than that.
For the 6D I know CLP is only 10%.
And you have to go through the hassle of finding that old camera. The program has been very successful in raising the price of old Canon cameras.
Got 2 old ones. One 3mp and a d10 that leaks (great underwater camera canon)
Ok, thanks. I seem to recall some kind of sale around Mother’s Day last year, maybe it will be included in that.
I think this is the Mother’s Day sale — this and the 15% off lenses sale that started yesterday.
The sale is until May 12th. Sounds like a Mother’s Day sale to me.
Does the refurb direct store accept returns?
Yes. You have to request an RMA number for the return within 14 days, and then have 14 more after that to ship the return.
True. It might be quicker to wait for them to add it to the CLP list.
what’s a CLP list?
Canon Loyalty Program
How do u get the extra 15% off the 6D?
The sale begins at 12 midnight ET.
I just ordered a refurb 6d yesterday from the direct store. Would they refund the difference of the sale price to me since it’s so close, or would I have to order to sale 6d and return the other one to get the discount?
The Canon Direct Store has been pretty strict about no price adjustments. You can try, but they may ask you to cancel/return and re-buy.
Based on past 6d body interest – how long will the 500 refurbished bodies last? Until Monday?
If that 500+ number that I get from Canon Direct is indeed correct (I’ve sometimes noticed it suddenly drop by a couple hundred, so there’s some weird magic I’m not aware of) it will last a few days.
Last year when the 6D refurb was first on sale, it took them 3 days to sell 400 6D — still quite impressive
Their system is telling me 724 right now. That seems way too high, I would think their accountants wouldn’t be too happy about them sitting on that much merchandise and not selling it.
In case you’re keeping score, in the first hour 30 6D were bought (start: 724, now: 694 left).
Also 20 5D Mark III were bought (start: 36, now: 16 left).
So we’ll probably be out of 5D Mark III in a few hours, and the 6D will be a couple days or so.
CLP = Canon Loyalty Program
Thanks. How “real time” is the inventory tracker? Does it update 24/7 as orders are processed?
Our system detects stock status changes (i.e. from out-of-stock to in-stock, or price changes) within about 15 seconds.
Inventory counts are a bit slower than that — they update every 20 minutes or so.
The updates happen 24/7.
The refurbished tracker page is on a 2-minute cache, so it might be out of date by a couple minutes at most on the in-stock status, and 20 minutes on inventory.
I should also add to this that Canon may delay the true inventory data before making it available to their website. I think the delay is a good 5-10 minutes, because we see the “in stock” still lit for a while (even though it won’t let us add it to cart). My count shows non-zero during this transition time as well.
On sale now. Discount is 10% for the 5D Mark III, 15% for the 6D
maybe its a dumb question, but are refurbished cameras really safe/reliable to buy?what about warranty? i mean, i dont live in US so im not sure if the warranty will actually work in my country if something happen to the camera. cheers
The CPW refurbished tracker suggests there are 200 f/2.8 and 135 f/2 in stock, and even Canon’s website suggests you can add them to your cart, but then it fails to do so. Why is that? Also, I recall you mentioning a trick you found to maybe (your mileage may vary) get an order for one of those in which Canon may or may not honor. What’s the trick, and did you ever get any feedback from anyone who tried it?
