EF 85mm f/1.8 USM for $334 at B&H, Adorama

B&H Photo Video and Adorama both have the Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM for $334.99. Other than a one-day sale in May, this is the cheapest price that we’ve seen for this lens since January of 2009. Both also offer a 4% reward. You see the discount at checkout.

This lens is very popular — a perfect focal length for portraits — and is a good affordable option.

I bought mine from B&H. Love it ; every time I take out that lens I hear nothing but praises, even from non-Canon users

This will probably be my next lens. I have a 1.4 50mm (×1.6=80mm) but I’d like something longer for real portraits.

Both stores are equally fantastic, my favorite two camera stores.

“Its L or nothing” ummm yea if you have the luxury or business investment to spend $2200 for a single prime lens. Other than that i love my respectable 85mm f/1.8.

I paid $359 for mine about 2 yrs ago. Great lens. Very sharp and fast. Allows you to easily shoot inside arenas and basketball court lighting where a flash is not practical.

My 85mm went to the shop several times cause I was missing focus often. Canon said there was nothing wrong each time. Tweaked the focus adjustment and still missed focus. Ended up buying the 100mm f2. Had two 7d bodies under the same light, 85 on one and 100 on the other. Switched lenses between both cameras and the 100 was 90% more accurate focus plane wise out of 20 to 30 portraits. Lighting was interior, camera ISO at 1600, wide open. It’s an odds game and some lenses work better with some auto focus. If you are not doing side by side and between two cameras under difficult lighting (i.e. low interior with tungsten and/or flor) you can NEVER believe any review.
