Announced: EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS III ($2099), EF 70-200 f/4L IS II ($1299)

Canon announced two new lenses tonight, and they’re already available for pre-order.

The EF 70-200mm f/4L IS II USM is a re-vamped version of the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM. This new lens features a shorter minimum focusing distance, a five-stop optical image stabilizer, and three stabilization modes. The best feature is likely the price — at $1299, it’s only modestly more expensive than its predecessor (currently $1099 retail).

The EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS III USM is a surprising update to one of the most popular lenses in the line-up, the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM II. According to Canon, the optical formula has not changed, and the only enhancements are on new lens coatings for flare and ghosting reduction. This lens is also carries a very reasonable introductory price tag at $2099.

Here’s a great video from Canon USA introducing the new lenses.
