I’ve never understood the appeal of these Peaked Designed tripods.

Yes, they’re light — but with tripods, lightness comes with a litany of tradeoffs (mostly lack of stability with potential extra vibrations, not of the “good” kind either).

Cheap(er) tripods (sub-$100) are in the same weight, size, and support capabilities. And then there are the plastic junkers that are sub-$50.

Sure, I may not want to mount a fully kitted telephoto DSLR on them — but I’d hesitate the same on the PD tripod too! However, a compact mirrorless/cellphone/action camera wouldn’t need much more than a $100 tripod or less.

I can’t imagine there are -that many- ultralight hikers needing to take their rigs days into the backcountry. And you’d be going for the most expensive carbon fibre model anyways.

And for most casual folks who are occasional tripod users, there are so many mid-tier 20-year-old tripods on used sites for sub-$100 (Manfrotto 3000 series for example)…any of those will vastly outperform this thing in terms of stability.
