Canon USA “Notified Major Dealers” of Upcoming Price Increases

Canon has further confirmed that price increases are coming to Canon USA. In the Q1’2025 quarterly results meeting, they directly confirmed the upcoming price increases, but the amount is still not known:

Q4. Please talk about the status of the price increase. If additional tariffs are passed on to product prices, how much of a price increase will we see in the end market?

A4. We have notified major dealers that we will raise prices and are in the process of estimating the timing and amount of the increase. Since tariffs are borne against the cost of goods, the higher the cost ratio is, the higher the price rate increases. We will conduct a detailed analysis, including the cost of each product and where it is produced, and will determine the rate of price increase for each product.

They also note that “[Canon USA] has about one- or two-months’ worth of inventory” and that the “impact of tariffs will mainly occur from the latter half of the year”.

Gear up now if you need it. I feel the lower end STM lenses made outside of Japan could cost as much as L lenses.

The only way this could get worse is if Camera Manufacturers decided to put pay-as-you-go subscription services on their hardware.

“Oh, you want to use Lens IS and IBIS? That’s a $3/month subscription fee.”

Cameras are not essential they are luxury items. People pay thousands of dollars + for lenses and bodies and want to complain about tarrifs. I’ll always buy what I want no matter what the price is or the tarrifs are. If anyone is worried about these things that are probably in the wrong hobby or business.

This affects you too, whether you believe it or not. Manufacturers selling less will cut into r&d and stymie new lens and camera innovations.
