Woohoo! I was finally able to snag up my RF 28-70. I placed my order within 10 minutes of the notification 🙂 Now just need to buy an R6 to mount it on lol

I hate to burst your bubble. I placed an order for a refurb 28-70 last December and Canon refused to honor that purchase until about two weeks ago when I had to stir up a major stink at their public relations department.

Basically they have been pulling a bait and switch. Get you to commit to the 28-70 then when you call to complain about no shipment they offer you a different lens.

Now, after raising that major league stink I did finally get one and it is as special as everyone says it is.

It, a 100mm macro, and a 70-200 are pretty much all the lens I think I will ever need for here on out.

Great, I’d like the lens at the discounted price but not sure how much time I want to commit to going that route. As a workaround, I ordered one at the regular price just now. If it does actually ship my plan is to call them upon receipt and basically tell them that I caught them in a lie and that they need to give me a price adjustment per the notes on my now canceled order. And I know the notes are there because the most recent rep read them out loud. If for some reason they refuse I’ll probably just ship it back and go without for a while. While I really want to experience this lens, but for my use the regular refurb price is a little lofty.

Oh man are you serious?? I had originally placed an order for a brand new 28-70 f2 but had cancelled it after I saw there was an offer for a refurbished version. There was supposedly only 2 refurbished ones in stock and after I purchased 1, it still said 2 in stock. I’m starting to wonder if I should I have just kept my order for the new one rather than save $300 with the refurbished, but not have it sent out anytime soon

There’s no way they have this many refurb RF 28-70 … I’m thinking a lot of orders will be cancelled.

I’ll be curious to see if any of these get filled. I had an order for the 28-70 from 12/2020 that’s been on “backorder” since. Even though I’ve seen it come back into stock a few times it never shipped. Then I got an email from Canon last week stating that I needed to call them within 14 days or they’d automatically cancel the order. I saw this notification and thought it would be a fitting time to call them. First rep said no problem and pushed the order through.

I then realized that my credit card had changed since the original order. Called back and was told I’d have to talk to sales, transferred there and after a 45 minute hold was told that the first rep made an error and that they don’t have these in stock, contrary to the website’s status. They then left me no option but to cancel my backorder and said they’d honor the December sale price if/when this comes back in stock again. So according to Canon their website is incorrect and they don’t have any in stock. My only option now is to watch the stock status and call them if the web site shows these as in stock again, even though that apparently isn’t accurate.

Is the inventory for the brand new ones accurate?

That’s the info according to the shopping cart on their website. Whether or not that’s actually accurate … only they know…
