What should I expect from a refurbished camera body? Do experiences vary? If products appear to be new, what makes them refurbished? Sorry if this is a FAQ. Thanks to all who can help!

There are a few reasons a camera can be refurbished. The most likely one IMHO is that someone bought it, used it for a short time, and then returned it. It could also be that it had a repairable defect, or some minor cosmetic damage. Pretty well anything that makes it so it can’t be sold new. They are inspected by a technician, and come with the same 1 year warranty a new camera does. (when from Canon directly that is, it might be different elsewhere). I have bought at least three cameras from Canon refurbished, all three had no visible issue, and functioned fine. It’s a great deal, especially when they have additional discounts.

Its sold out now, but 1200 for a 5DsR, that’s the price of a 90D. Full frame super sensor for APS-C price. If not for my R5, I would have jumped on that.

I have many lenses I use professionally that I bought refurbished, and they are indistinguishable from new. They’ve been in my pro kit for 5 years now and zero issues. I just picked up a 5Ds via this incredible deal. I’m not currently eyeing the R line, and am very happy with continuing to use DSLR as far as I can take it. My 5D3’s have been complete workhorses. Getting refurbished items directly from Canon is definitely a great deal, IMO.
