A new EOS R mirrorless camera has shown up — the Canon EOS Ra has appeared at Adorama with a pre-order price of $2499.00.
The camera has a modified infrared-cutting filter in front of the sensor, which lets through about 4x as much hydrogen alpha rays (at the 656nm wavelength) vs. a regular EOS R camera. This allows for more contrast when photographing the deep red infrared rays emitted by nebulae.
Although this IR adjustment was always available as an aftermarket service for most Canon cameras, it’s great to see Canon re-investing in the astrophotography directly.
